Will KC ever see light rail?
Generally speaking, I agree that engineers can have flawed plans. But let's not forget who this guy is-- Doug Malewicki has been designing transportation systems for a very long time, including the Saturn V rocket that put men on the moon, the B-2 Bomber, and various other military and personal airc...

OFFICIAL: The View
There is a studio next to The View where my band rehearses, and work has been steadily progressing for the past few weeks. They've got the westside outdoor pool almost done, and the city has been upgrading the roads outside the building. The windows are obviously damn near all up (which, btw, makes ...

Let's Paint Downtown Yellow (Freight)
I third that sentiment. And let's face it, Yellow is turning a handy profit. Corporate welfare for healthy companies is utter insanity. However, if they WANT to come, and are willing to do so without the city bending over for them, then let's have 'em, for sure. I'd love to open a restaurant downtow...

Friday Press Conference
If I had to guess, I'd say the overwhelming majority don't give a shit; a relative minority (almost exclusively in E Jack) want the status quo; and everyone else wants to see a ballpark come downtown. Glass, I think, just doesn't want to spend the money, period, and that's the end of that. I cannot ...

St Louis population still falling...
If 500,000 people left the St. Louis region tomorrow, it and its economy would still be bigger than Kansas City's. ...but the city population wouldn't. OH! FEEL THE BURN! The butt-Rams would still suck! OH YEAH! BURN! St. Louis would still smell like poop! OH! DOGGED! And the worst beer in the worl...

I'm not sure that's a useful solution, but I guess doing something that won't accomplish anything beats doing nothing?KCPowercat wrote:that gas station is a current target by the CID. They are trying to get them to stop selling liquor.

Nelson-Atkins Expansion (YES..white glass is the end result)
Two completely different buidlings. Denver's is above ground, KC's is below ground, which is much much more expensive to build. If the aboveground portion of KC's looked like Denver's instead of like what we have, I think fewer people here would be whining (although, no doubt, there would still be ...

Re: High Speed Rail
While 300 mph travel between KC and STL would be nice, is it really necessary? I don't think so. I disagree. It would obviously cost a lot more, but I think it is worth it (if not strictly necessary ). Screw the airlines, they are spectacularly inefficient, lumbering beasts of burden compared to hi...

Nelson-Atkins Expansion (YES..white glass is the end result)
I was really nervous about it after driving by a few times, but you know, in all actuality I'm starting to like it. Imagining it when it's complete, especially at night, I think it will be awesome. I do think it is unfortunate that the glass isn't a little more transparent, and the (steel?) bars kin...

Well...the CN Tower is a completely different kind of structure. Concrete, rebar, steel beams...not just steel beams bolted together. It might be possible, I'm no structural engineer, but it sure seems unlikely without a major redesign. Cool idea, though.

I hate to feel this way, but it seem drivers in general are impatient assholes who think they are immortal and invincible. Of course I'm never like that, and I'm sure nobody else is, either. Just those other people.

David Glass: Not that interested in a new stadium
Stop being so realistic and think outside the box. We CAN convince him, it isn't impossible and it can, and WILL be done. Being unrealistic and thinking outside the box is cool, but it's hard to blame Glass if he decides to put money into making his team better rather than into making downtown bett...
