Re: Proposed apartment for 14th and Grand - Two Light

Heard on the news that there are no buildings downtown that are vacant or don't have a plan for restoration. Once this wave of work in completed, everything else will be new construction. Hopefully we start to expand vertically. last I knew the New England building was mostly empty. And the McWhite...

Re: Whole Foods mixed-use project @ 51/Oak

I think I have been on 50-75% of the college campuses in Missouri (there's a lot of colleges) and they're all that kind of mess. nearly every campus is landlocked inside a town and they all grow as strangely organic as you can imagine where they have to put buildings where they fit.

Re: KCMO Downtown Streetcar

a track status update for those who can't make it downtown often (heading south to north) no further visible movement on the southern junction. it's looked the same above ground for the past week. the SB track slab looks to be complete all the way through to just north of 13th St with track looking ...

bias sure, but not to be completely devoid of reality.

it's a fine viewpoint to claim incentives are the cause of the development boom but he failed even at that.

Re: Congress Building 3535 Broadway

my favorite building is the guy downtown who leaves the gate open, lets the homeless live there and leaves the resulting trash. ?? NW corner 18th and Central. Reported it and the city came back saying the owner was OK with it being a homeless camp. it's visibly trashy. This other guy reminded me of...

Re: KCMO Downtown Streetcar

I've decided I really dislike this Patrick Tuohey ‏guy. It's not that he's against the line. I'm fine with him being against it. He has some perks over Mr. Tony in that he at least tries to provide evidence for his arguments. Mr. Tuohey doesn't use "insider knowledge" that comes out of a s...

Even the best east side benefits are hard to sell during an election

Come in and do sewers, roads and sidewalks laterally along the line at the same time as rail and who will focus on that?

Re: Uber/Lyft ride-sharing in Kansas City

A business license is $25 minimum. So if it's really $12.50 that's a discounted rate.

I should know, I have one.

Another thing that hasn't made that list, they also have to file KC earning tax paperwork yearly. It's mandatory as a Kansas City business

Re: Uber/Lyft ride-sharing in Kansas City

They need to find places that have regulation but aren't crazy difficult that they can point to in other cities. They're likely hedging their bets that KC will be one of the tougher one.

But if they're wrong all it would take is NYC or LA coming up with much stricter and they're really hurting.

zoning

you can answer why almost entirely with density limits and setback requirements

so much of the density, TOD, etc problems come down only to zoning

Re: OFFICIAL: Port Authority Riverfront Project

The downtown streetcar TDD already covers the port authority project so I don't see more property taxes working. Track is at ~40 million per mile. I figure payback of bonds at 120% of the cost to have a working number. It's approx 0.75 miles worth of track needed. it's almost a 25% increase in the l...

For posterity sake if you hear someone call a streetcar an old (archaic) technology:

the three forms of public transportation that will be on the roads of Kansas City next year all date to around the 1880s

safety bicycle, gasoline automobile, electric streetcar

Re: 2015 KC general election

I'm going to guess the council (with mayor's vote) will be somewhere from 10-3 to 7-6 for rail. A few people clearly against the line will be elected in but too many people just don't give a clear position. It looks like it comes down to 1st and 5th district results 1: Hall vs Davis-- Hall has Dan C...
