Re: 5th and Main (Northwest Corner)
Kansas City has pretty much ignored all urban design best practices for ground levels of the last few decades in favor of subsidizing blank walls for parking or office windows. It's almost like if we cover our ears and just keep shouting "INFILL!" as we speed away from the parking garage,...

Re: 5th and Main (Northwest Corner)
It's always "this building is terrible! What a massive waste of an opportunity. This will go down as one of the greatest blunders!" or something. Then as the project is built, the opinion slowly shifts until opening day arrives and they go "oh nevermind this is actually good". T...

Re: 5th and Main (Northwest Corner)
The bigger issue than parking is how the design mostly disrespects the ground level. It seems pretty good, right? Activity along the park, activity along 5th. This is a good ground floor imho, what are you noticing? https://cityscenekc.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/10/City-Harvest-looking-north-KEM-S...

Re: OFFICIAL - New KCI Terminal
I see the arrivals is already having congestion issues in the garage. I'm telling you, they need to move the rental car buses and maybe economy parking buses to a designated spot on the curb right at the terminal. That would make those buses more convenient and free up space in the garage lanes. Yo...

Re: KC gets decent share of touring shows
Pretty underwhelming concert season ahead for KC in the spring and summer 2023. Seems like we're getting less of everything. Good news is we always have interesting local stuff that's as good as anything touring. Any shows ppl are looking forward to? Skinny puppy at liberty would be fun but it's $100.

Re: Capping the Loop
Would management of an improved BAP and Loop Cover Park be the same group? Where would funding come from? From Raleigh's Dix Park, which hosts events as big as J. Cole's Dreamville: "The City of Raleigh owns and operates Dorothea Dix Park. Dix Park Conservancy is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that exis...

Re: KCMO Downtown Streetcar
I would rather have a big downtown office district that can get repurposed than a sea of parking lots (what we have). Do you know how many modern offices in SF are getting repurposed into housing right now? Zero. How many are proposed? Zero. And there are tech offices giving up entire buildings of ...

Re: OFFICIAL - New KCI Terminal
No matter what happens with this snazzy, much-needed airport facility, it's gonna be the new security protocol that makes/breaks it. Will KCI be ready when we all show up at once? From the photos, the TSA checkpoint area seems quite modest in size. Every human that flies from a 2+ hour radius of KC ...

Re: OFFICIAL - New KCI Terminal
I can't imagine why or any reason why they would not have a few taxis queued up there and simply add a new tax to the que as they go. They would easier to find as well. And the convo comes full circle to when I posted it! We will soon find out. Can always tweak process. I guess I was under the impr...

Re: Aladdin--boutique hotel by Holiday Inn
Does anyone think the Aladdin Hotel will reopen under a new franchise before the World Cup? Seems like a no-brainer, but why on earth isn't someone pursuing affordable housing here??!?! Which organization in KC could develop affordable housing on this scale? On the other hand, it could also make in...

...daytime is about the same as it has always been since so few people work there. It was pure luck our downtown was only sold off / given away to Cordish / AEG for entertainment and cheesedick luxury apartments and not sold off /given away to Sprint or Cerner for millions upon millions of vacant s...

Re: Restoration of City Control Over KCPD
Jefferson City controlling anything in this city bothers me a lot more than where cops sleep. I find it pretty distasteful that they want to come play cowboy here and scramble off to Lee's Summit at night, but it's small potatoes compared to the state - especially this state, which is unquestionabl...

Re: Book Club for urban core oriented books
update: cant find a copy, but it was written by Richard Rhodes (pulizter winner from KC area). Here is something about the essay, Richard Rhodes called the spread-out metropolis "Cupcake Land." A place "well-scrubbed and bland," as the author described his hometown in a 1987 ess...

I saw somewhere that JC Nichols Co. had ownership in much of the local Plaza retail businesses back in the day. Anyone know more about this? It would definitely explain "the good old days" of the Plaza many remember.

Re: Main & Armour - Mac Properties
Why do people think there should be tax breaks and incentives for a private development located on a brand new street car line? There is already a public investment of $351.7 million for the streetcar. Is that not enough of public incentive for private development?
