Re: Olathe/OP grab the Wizards and build them a Stadium

Cities and taxpayers increasingly are playing hardball with pro sports. Sacramento and Seattle are just two recent examples. They're doing that because they realize two things: First, pro sports are not as important as schools, roads, taxes, cost of living, etc. when companies and people are consid...

and where does this line of thought originate? are you aware of some secret master plan that the parks department has cooking? are you proposing that we let PVP fester and pray that the new population in the surrounding area will instantly overcome the connectivity issues chatain's plan is trying t...

Second, Huggins didn't take these guys out to dinner, buy them gifts, pay their parent's rent, invite them over to the president's house to party and go out riding on ATV's (see MU), take them into a classroom and cooperatively take exams with them to qualify them academically (see KU), etc.  I got...

Re: One Nineteen (Crate and Barrel center)

For the record, The Saint Louis Galleria is in Richmond Heights. The only thing that separates Clayton and Richmond Heights is Clayton Road.  The two cities are actually in merger talks. The Saint Louis Galleria sits at the corner of Clayton Rd. and Brentwood. Also, suburban Brentwood starts just b...

Re: Stem Cell debate not over yet

There are some very intelligent people out there with law degrees who have discovered how many $millions they can "earn" by getting patents on intellectual ideas and then going after big companies with deep pockets who have "infringed" on their so-called patents. I wouldn't be s...

Re: Light Rail Routing Issues

Highlander, if you'd reviewed my plan, you'd see that it goes through P&L... Don't bring up arguments with me unless they pertain to my idea... That is, unless you were arguing against Chastain's plan. Because most of the time the arguments are wasted because my idea addresses them. My bad Devi...

Re: Light Rail Routing Issues

And yes, the success of P&L is insured... 1200 units in a few blocks, plus plenty of retail, office, and the main arena in the area. Plus it's location so close to Bartle Hall and the PAC helps insure it's success... Light rail is also going to be a success, even if it isn't a success right now...

Re: Stem Cell debate not over yet

So, something interesting I heard and don't know how to cite: Adult stem cells aren't patentable, but embryonic stem cells are, because when you create an embryo via nuclear transfer, you're actually making a product. I'm for medical research, especially something as promising as stem cell research...

Re: Light Rail Routing Issues

Highlander, one of the only things I disagree with in your post is that you say we shouldn't worry about TOD right now... We HAVE to think in the long term. Areas are killed because people don't think in the long term. And we won't be creating new Power and Light Districts, but we will be spreading...

Re: Light Rail Routing Issues

i did, can't say i argue with this, i don't care for midtown marketplace. I will say that I do hate the Chastain route, particularly in the midtown area.  What is most essential about Light Rail is to get adequate ridership; that means you have to put the thing through the most densly populated res...

Re: Official - KCMO Light Rail

The route through the core is absolutely hopeless.  Why through PVP?  Why avoid CC?  Why avoid the Main Corridor at all.  This route is built for MINIMUM ridership.  For gods sake, think this one through before anything gets invested.

Indeed it is, but the operational center is in Seatle much like the arrangement Sprint has with Kansas City (HQ in Virginia but most employees are here).

Not to mention REI and Microsoft in suburban Seattle and the operational HQ of Boeing (as KC is for Sprint).

Re: Light Rail Routing Issues

how did you guess? ok, here is my route, I'm thinking of it as I type this.... Main St Fine by me, I like it better than Broadway as it simply serves the most people over the shortest most direct route.  South Broadway just north of the plaza could work (as suggested by Devin) as long as it interse...

Re: Stem Cell debate not over yet

Apparently Mother Nature does not.  Over one third of fertilized eggs after sex never fix properly in the uterus and are flushed out in the next menstrual cycle.  Is that lost life?  Do you have a funeral for every lost embryo that nature disposes of so easily?  How could your god allow this? I'll ...

Not really, Seattle's higher income is somewhat abated by its much higher cost of living.
