Re: OFFICIAL: Power & Light District

I wish they would go for buildings that were atleast 5 stories high (leave River Market scale to the River Market)..... On the upper floors you could have some residences. Imagine having people living in the district right above the areas. You could party, get drunk (or high) and then take an elava...

infrastructure vs stadium/arena?

KC probably will not have to make that choice. Funds for both would probably come from different sources. A stadium would be funded by a combination of revenue bonds and sales taxes collected on the stadium site. Mass transit would either be a property tax or city wide sales tax - if city based - or...

Creighton in town for Guardians Classic

what was the attendance? I was going to walk down and go to the game but got lazy. MU fans are a strange bunch...that place should have been packed last night to see their team in one of their biggest alumni cities. I believe it was in the early 80's when Mu did a few games in Kemper. KU had done w...

Suburban Retailers Say Hello to Downtown

One of the interesting points in the article would not apply to KC. "Suburban retailers that migrate to the city learn quickly enough that they have more customers within a 10-minute walk than they are used to having within a 10 mile drive." Don't believe KC has that type of density downto...

Will UMKC ever be a decent Div I hoops program?

To answer the question it is no. UMKC does not have the commitment to have a program. UMKC does not have the funds to have a big program. UMKC does not have the fan support for a big program.

Let the program go to Div II or NAIA.

I Visited Downtown Again

Maybe the could stick a couple of vendors inside Bartle? Like one of those Ken-Taco-Huts or a BK er something. A fast food chain w/ a drive thru is the last thing I'd like to see downtown. Not enough business to support it. A few years ago they tried a food operation on Barney Allis Plaza during th...

Bustling downtown feel

Maybe what you are missing is some of the "old KC downtown". By old I mean the 12 Street strip joints, bars, and flop houses. Sometimes it was dead, other times alive. The dancers would step out of the bars and look up and down the street. Seeing no cops they would bare their tops or moon ...

Parking downtown

One of the things that struck me as strange is the 500 spaces by the Sprint Center. It says either garage or surface. Amazed more comments were not made about this. Can you imagine what a 500 space surface parking by the Sprint Center would look like? The land cost? :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o Hopefully...

KCP, what I was trying to make with my statement was: Most people now on the street of downtown are either arriving from out of the area and rushing to work or leaving work to go out of the area and home. In others words they are rushing, not taking a leisurly walk. What is it that you see when you ...

You might have to look at City Codes. Each building requires so much parking and with all of the proposed development this is the need.

You want people downtown it will take two things.
People living downtown.
Shops, restaurants, etc downtown.

That is what you have at the Plaza and Westport.

Maybe in five to ten years KC downtown will have enough of both to make the area alive.

Not sure what kind of light you need but here is my take on the underground garages. Believe the locations, except for the one north of PAC, are in locations that have already been excavated at one time or another. So to go down would not present that big of a problem. Also, there is a chance that b...

OFFICIAL - Performing Arts Center construction

Look at the lay of the land. A parking garage going up and to the east will not harm PAC that much. (I am assuming that my memory is correct that the land flows downhill from PAC to the east.) If you build an underground garage at the originally proposed you will have one of two scenerios. 1) parkin...

Overland Park Arena?

TK, my comment only concerned putting ice making equipment in Municipal, not about any other arena. Believe the voters already approve the new arena downtown so that is not part of the discussion. Besides, remember, I was not for the new downtown arena. Now if OP or Olathe, or Edwardsville want to b...

An aquarium would be a nice addition also. Plus the restoration of the planetarium will be a plus. Even throw in a aviary. Any restuarants in the place would have to compliment these choices. It is a little cheezey but a Rainforest Cafe would compliment these uses. You could still have a train museu...

Locations for Chiefs/Royals?

Kemper was not a bad plan nor in the wrong area for its time. If an NBA and/or NHL team had continued to play there the situation would be different than now. The West Bottoms will be brought back to life but a stadium will suck it out. It will tie up too much land that will be used very little. Bac...

Locations for Chiefs/Royals?

Fairly strong language but I agree. Kemper did not help the West Bottoms in the long run. A football stadium will not help either and would probably cause a lot more harm than good. Don't put it there, or any place else, just for financial support. Put it into a location because it is the best locat...

The Star: Pull Union Station out of mediocrity

My comments were more for fun than serious. However, when an older building is saved there should be a worthy plan for its use. I believe many voters voted yes to save the building but not for its planned use, I was one. Science City was a pipe dream backed up by questionable consultants and doomed ...

Overland Park Arena?

Well TK, Municipal Arena may be historic but not functional for two of the sports mentioned. It does not have ice making equipment installed and to have portable would be too expensive. So ice hockey is out. True, for one season, indoor soccer was played there but that was before the latest moderniz...

Different developers for the projects. Hallmark did not have redevelopment rights at the Pershing One and Two locations. Back when the Hyatt was built there were no plans for the station. Maybe with the cost of the project and what has happened afterwards it might have been cheaper and best to demol...
