Re: 1822 Main Redevlopment
They need to do something architectural that highlights that vertical 'bar' where the elevator is instead of ignoring it. Change the cladding! Make it an interesting light element at night. Do an art installation. Something!

Re: Misc Crossroads News
Weinberger Fine Arts is closing their gallery on SW Blvd. Hate to see galleries close in the neighborhood. Hope something creative replaces it!

Re: 1822 Main Redevlopment
I like the brick portions at the bottom. I hate the upper floors. That cladding is going to look cheap. The window pattern is bothering me for some reason, too. Doesn't look thoughtful, looks slapped together. I wish they'd splurge for terracotta or some other more interesting material on the upper ...

That is the perfect use for that corner. I've dreamt about a pocket park there for years.

Re: Midtown Area Apartment Boom
It could make really cool apartment or even a hip little hotel.
The old buildings that still exist on Linwood are enough to make it really regal once again. We just need to be careful with the design of the infill buildings that get built. (and get rid of all the drive through buildings).

It's pretty awful looking.
Too bad there isn't any good architecture nearby to get inspiration from.

Are we still talking about this design? I hope all the tile and Spanish-ish influences are still in the plans.

Yeah, I think that 'mobility lane' should just be an expanded sidewalk and/or green space next to the sidewalk.
Like you said, it just abruptly stops. As a cyclist myself, I much prefer to ride up through the park than go up main. This lane isn't going to change that for me.

Re: Westport
Sounds like another Mexican restaurant is set to open in the old Corner Restaurant space. Another one will be opening in the former Port Fonda space as well. Seems like a saturated market. Also, the former Grimm Tattoo Museum building (around the corner from the former Tattoo Shop) burned Tuesday ni...

The historic designation was shot down by the city planning commission.
Sounds like George Birt is interested in building on the site. I still think the home(s) should be preserved.

Re: Plaza move-ins (ongoing)
The plaza needs a movie theater again. Maybe they should just be careful about what movies they show so they attract the 'right crowd'. I think an amazing addition to the plaza would be a live theater, too. Restore/Renovate the historic plaza theater building and make it into a beautiful live venue....

Oh no! With the renovation of the El Torreon and all the other activity over there, this seems like a prime place for a new apartment building with more restaurant patios etc. What a waste of real estate.

Re: St. Regis Apartments Rehab Will Get Financing, Tax Credits
This project continues to putter along. Just east of this, a dilapidated old colonnade is getting a new front porch. I'm assuming this means a full building renovation? I hope so. Linwood was once so grand! I bet they are using Historic Tax Credits. All of Kansas City's colonnade-style apartments ar...

Just where and how are the neon signs going to be displayed? Will they be visible from Broadway and/or the freeway? They are going to be located in an 'alley' between two of the old block buildings. Might be able to see them a bit from Broadway but the Carter-Waters building will block it a bit. Wi...

Re: Liberty Memorial Musuem and Penn Valley Park
not sure if this has been discussed before but I wonder if they'll ever get rid of those two small parking lots east and west of the two halls and make it the same architecture as the rest of the memorial. It really breaks up the continuity and feel of the memorial to have pass through these lots w...

Re: Renovations of apartment buildings along Armour Blvd.
I literally want all four corners of 39th and Broadway redone with high-quality building similar to the Crosswalks development. Create nice retail and restaurant spaces on the ground floor with some recessed patios etc. Also some good landscaping would go a long way in making that intersection seem ...

Can we do this at 39th and Broadway PLEASE!! Maybe with more balconies. An classic colonnade-inspired complex would be awesome there.

Re: Washington Sq Park between Crown Center/Union Station
North Terrace and Kessler parks combine to create quite a large park as well! We do have a wealth of parkland here in KC. Guests from out of town always remark about the abundant parks and pretty boulevards. I love that all the parks are not just flat open meadows. Roanoke park is my favorite becaus...
