Re: New AMTRAK route between Kansas City and Oklahoma City
I suspect that the State legislature may already be taking action on this proposal, in that the joint transportation committee probably directed the Kansas State Department of Transportation to request a study that will cost $175,000 dollars to analyze the route and provide cost figures. KDOT would ...

THAT WHICH HOLDS US BACK may very well be the phrases that are all to commonly used on this board. These may very well be the feelings, expressed by a few, but shared by so many other in our city that makes our metro area second class in the opinion of many: "this would never ...

Re: Official: KCMO Light Rail
Grid, I made a mistake in my message about the Railrunner. This commuter operation reached 500,000 in just under a year, so the daily ridership was actually about 1,400 a day. The system and ridership has grown since then, because when first operational many of the park and ride stations were not o...

Commuter Rail. Did Albuquerque make the biggest public transit error since the dawn of time by putting commuter rail across a city that has but a fraction of the density of Kansas City, but moved 500,000 people in the first 27 months of operation? Observing what is written on this board, it has to h...

Re: River Market - Slow and Steady Progress.
Great pictures. Some time ago I quit looking at the status quo as "static." I can think back a few years and remember how much less there was downtown, including the City Market. Some neat things have vanished and there are new things, but I gauge the change and think (or dream) that ther...

Here's a hypothetica question: Would the vote that was taken in Florida and Michigan have the exact same result today as it was back at the first of the year?
Considering the momentum gained over these last five months by Obama, Clinton may not want to see a redux in those states.

Some of the facts and statistics appear wrong. I read and heard, and saw on this board that our River to 31st street residential population has grown from 6k to 16k since 2000, with a projection of 21,000 by 2010. The Star reports 4K. Which figure is correct?

I heard our brilliant President speak about proposals he has heard to bring relief to the gas consumers of America. This was broadcast on an audio clip on Rush Phlegmbaugh's show, in which Bush said, "We have had proposals; there is the possibility of A-N-W-R reserves, where there is 12 million...

I attended the Urban Society/AIA workshop last week, and they proposed the Grand Avenue (primary), Main Street (possible secondary route). There are problems with each of these routes, chiefly, Grand Avenue is the route of most of our public celebrations (American Royal Parade which would shut dow...

Re: Official: KCMO Light Rail
Damn, that looks a lot like the ASB bridge. At one of the public meetings this Spring, someone responded to the suggestion to use ASB with a question "well, can it support the weight of light rail?" A voice somewhere in the room answered, "coal trains run over it." The next thi...

Ok, I'll admit I shared it with a friend and told my wife about it. I think it's fun. The girls are ok, but the real kick is the technology and what we have in th 21st century. Think about it: some young women model and an animation of them scantily clad are dressed and changed by a bunch of women w...

For Gretz, on a related note..... Th U.S. House is about ready to proceed on the massive funding increase bill (known as Lott-Lautenberg SB-294), with hearings scheduled for May 1st. C-Span may carry it (I don't know for sure). This bill is in James Oberstar's subcomittee on railroads and pipelines....

My sentiments exactly. If the big difference between your example of Boston and KC is will, then let's get our act together. There are many who will say that the difference between KC and Boston is, "well Boston is a cool city." If that's the difference then maybe there is no need to disc...

When I saw the suggestion to create more green space in West Botoms, I wondered how that would promote making the area more vibrant and urban. Density (and the desire for it) has also been mentioned in this thread. You can't have density by razing, flattening and surfacing the area with parking. Sev...

Think it's called Parkwood, an almost Westheight quality neihborhood.
Quindaro was very prosperous and upscale, in the 1920's and 1930's.
