Re: Urban Living Pet Peeves
Seriously what is the point of this post? ...just a reminder to the urban lovers that these mentioned urban pet peeves are sensed by everyone (urbanite or suburbanite), but those who flee to the suburbs are not willing to put up with it any longer. Not everyone has the same threshold of pet-peeve t...

Re: Urban Living Pet Peeves
This great thread reminds me why I love Overland Park. Litter? Not a common problem. Parking? Driveway at every house and parking lots with more space than needed. Idiot Neighbors? We have enough space between us to ignore each other. Sidewalks?....why would anyone use a sidewalk? Loitering/indecent...

This opportunity will be an epic FAIL if they do not re-vision Mill Street to make it look and feel more like Pennsylvania a block away. Dump the wide lanes and center turn lane, add on-street parking on the east side of the street and make the streetscape mimic the other district streets with bric...

Any thoughts on how Kemper Arena plays into this? Could it be used for some events?

Re: Urbanism, architecture, transit, etc.
I had meetings today in south Leawood. We decided to walk to lunch just one block away. It was a miserable experience walking thru parking lots and landscape buffer areas. Everything from door to door was terrible from a pedestrian experience. Keep in mind this is in Leawood, where everything is &qu...

Johnson Drive Improvements, Downtown Mission
Johnson Drive Improvements, Downtown Mission Hmm…….I drive thru this area every few months and I am amazed to see how bombed out this area still looks. This area has so much potential but I see very little momentum going in the right direction (as someone looking in from the outside). I chose not to...

Re: What should they do with King Louie know?
The museum would have been a fabulous re-use of this structure. I have little kids and we often go to the current museum for the activities they have there. It is really a great museum in a terrible place and in a terrible building. This Metcalf site was perfect for them. ...and who else would ever ...

Re: Company bought part of brookside
Border Star would be better as condos or apartments, and the frontage on Meyer, Brookside Blvd, and 63rd developed. Apartments and condos are an underserved market in Brookside. This would be an appropriate place to put them. Every time I drive down 63rd, I imagine shops on the south side from Worn...

Diverging Diamond Interchange at ROE & I-435
Last night KDOT held an info meeting on the upcoming diverging diamond at Roe & I-435. I travel this intersection almost daily and often during the peak of rush hour and I never found it to be a traffic nightmare. But…I guess they feel that it needs replaced, so they need to go full-blown fancy ...

I don't know if they're available locally, but (Dutch) disease-resistant American Elms (from the naturally selected Princeton grove). DED resistance elms are very common in the trade. Here is a list of the recommended trees for KC put out by a group of local tree experts: http://www.gouldevans.com/...

Re: Trees in KC (ongoing)
Have you noticed all the ash that KCMO has treated for Emerald Ash Borer? Thousands! (see the quarter size pins on the tree trunk at 6' that has a number) OP and many other cities have chosen to let them die. Some studies suggest the cost is less to treat, than to remove and replace, but that all de...

Looks like Indianapolis is doing it right. Has anyone here seen this new trail system in Indy? Is it as good as this video proclaims? http://www.treehugger.com/cars/biggest-bicycling-infrastructure-achievement-north-america-youve-never-heard-about.html http://media.treehugger.com/assets/images/2013/...
