Re: Crown Center: urban disaster, shining star, or in-between

Hallmark signed a letter of intent to sell 5 acres of surface lot space to Indianapolis developer Milhaus. It's the wedge of property between 27th and 27th Terr, and Gilham and McGee. Milhaus would work with UC-B Properties, who has done some other urban renewal type stuff, apparently. I'm not famil...

Re: Rent/Buy My Apartment

get rid of the guitar and replace it with a sax. everyone knows that only losers play the guitar and this shows in photo #7. at this price point a more sophisticated instrument will help. i can rent an entire recording studio in raypec for this price, with instruments and free coffee. is that an Ea...

Re: P&L Building

The top of that building is exquisite. Do they plan on doing anything inside that small section of the building? Cigar lounge? Pool table? This was 13 years ago or so, but when I went up there back then there were signs that said not to go out on the setbacks without proper protective gear due to r...

Re: Little Free Libraries

We have a little free library I built for the wifey. It's a replica of our own house, and I would say that having it has introduced us to many new people in the neighborhood. It was installed April 2014 and gets very regular traffic. We have children's books, how-to books, trashy romance novels, eve...

I also did not know that. I knew it used to be heavily gothic but was all stripped off in the 70s or something. Sucks....

Re: Old Bar Natasha spot - (now "Affare")

They have an enclosed courtyard now, I stepped out to check it out. Nice little hidden spot surrounded by buildings and a doorway that spans between two buildings.

Re: Old Bar Natasha spot - (now "Affare")

For the record, brunch on Easter Sunday was great. Parents, grandma, wife and 2 year old all went. We were in the back side room with another big group. Food was a great price for the quality and quantity. Most ordered the Arme Ritter which is basically French toast with a vanilla sauce and a hint o...

Re: Old Bar Natasha spot - (now "Affare")

Affare posted on Facebook that they "Finally have their street parking back". I assume this means we can expect them to begin opening on Mondays for lunch again, since the streetcar construction is what forced them to close. Nevermind the fact that it's a MONDAY and possibly the lowest vo...

Sidewalk Cafe - Question on ordinance

There is a restaurant in town on a busy 4 lane street. It's on a corner, and every single nice day, they have completely blocked passage on the sidewalk due to the placement of their tables and chairs near a tree which is surrounded by a 2' tall pipe railing that goes around the perimeter of the gra...

Re: Mo's Italian Spot - 59th & Prospect

When my dad was held up at gun point at a carwash on a Sunday afternoon near Lakewood in Lee's Summit, I sort of lost any sense of fright about parts of town. I have a "this is my city, bitch" mentality, and I won't let anyone take that away. My wife is imported from Topeka, and she knew o...

Re: Mo's Italian Spot - 59th & Prospect

I've been trying to get the wife to go with me, still haven't been. The location is certainly scaring her off...she doesn't want to go at all much less for a family dinner with our 2 year old. I'll have to go on my own one of these days...

Re: Wonderful Waldo

I feel the same way. Other than being in a very walkable spot, it's a terribly ugly location so thank god they're developing it. I live mere blocks away so I've driven that road a million times when leaving Walgreens to get back on Wornall or 75th "the back way". Trust me it's ugly! Wish t...

Re: Troost developments

Noticed over the weekend that the improvements to the building on the NE corner of 40th and Troost continue, sans permit. No idea what Abnos is doing there. Not sure what this building looks like, but when you say improvements do you mean he's taking down frosted acrylic panels and shitty galvanize...

Re: Bridger's Bottle Shop & Preservation Market

Yes, you can still order beers to go. Their selection is much smaller now though, and part of the cooler space is now dedicated to someone butchering meat behind the doors. It's a little awkward since the doors are clearly still able to be opened, and the person is just there, behind glass, looking ...

Re: P&L Building

How much does it cost to build a new detached one- or two-car garage on a single family house lot? I assume an attached garage is a bit cheaper, but how much additional cost does it add to a new house to add a two-car garage--versus a new house with no garage? I assume costs for home garages also v...
