Re: John Travolta and Tom Cruise invade the Crossroads
I have not heard of Scientology properties in other cities having any adverse effects on the neighborhoods. They are not going to come out on the sidewalk and the drag passersby in. On the contrary, I sort of am fearful of what will become of the struggling 39th and Main intersection when they vac...

Re: Hypothetical Land Use for the West Bottoms
One of the reasons industry moved into there, and the residential is up closer to the hill. Actually flooding a portion of the West Bottoms is not a bad idea. Since any water recreation on the Missouri is questionable due to the speed of the channelized current, a winding lagoon behind the levees ...

Re: Hypothetical Land Use for the West Bottoms
Just remember how any territory in the river bottoms in KC is in the summer--hot, muggy, and the lowest point where all the bad smells and pollution settle.

downtown condo market (from P&L Condo thread)
The View has "brand new everything." I still think that once the P&L. Sprint Center, The PAC, opens up, you will see an upturn in interest in moving DT. All of us downtown now are still "urban pioneers" and most people in this culture do not want to be pioneers. For most, ...

downtown condo market (from P&L Condo thread)
I think many people are reluctant to reserve a unit in a building that has yet to break ground. Who wants to sell there present place and then have nowhere to go if it turns quickly(or not). From what I have seen, product that is already on the market and available has done well and choice is ge...

Incredible amount of excavation into the limestone escarpment has taken place. There is a very deep pit where the ballet building was. Seems just like yesterday I was standing on a grassy hillside watching Liberty Memorial fireworks.

Re: OFFICIAL - Bartle Hall Expansion construction
After walking around the hill yesterday, I must say I am very impressed. Despite the hype, I was expecting another Butler building lean to annex pole barn joined to the 1994 ballroom. But the old ballroom is the Yugo, the new is a Rolls. When viewed from the south it has all the presence and maje...

Re: The Old Malls of KC
The main reason that KCK looks so rural from I-70 is that for years and years it was a no local access turnpike from the Turner Diagonal west, and to the east only had exits at 38th, 18th, and 7th. Thus there was no pull for development along it. Only after they pulled the toll booth west of 435 d...

There is an armature on the roof for a large sign, once had a City National Bank neon on it . In LA they have large neon signs on the Scientology cult buildings. Will we have a huge red neon towering over the crossroads?

That bridge has had chunks falling out of it for the past 30 years. There once was a branch bank drive through on the vacant lot on Main. I don't know if it is part of the Trinity property or not. It sure would make a nice spot for some infill retail/services, especially if the light rail goes do...
