Re: Learning from Phase 2 OR Rising from the Ashes
From a Pitch article about Sherry DeJanes's newly proposed ordinance to forbid expansion planning, as discussed in another thread : [Mayor Sly] James has said that precincts along Main Street voted in favor of the project last year and that the city would go that route for its next expansion effort...

if they were smart the trademark would be owned by a corporation that has a contract with the actual entity to use the branding, with terms in favor of the name holder, etc. Like say the entity gets a lawsuit it immediatelly kills the right to use the name. the royal is run by people that know how t...

I hereby propose the pro tourism sign ordinance. Requiring all businesses of public interest defined within to install a sign visible from at least X feet away, or roughly one city block, whichever is longer. This ordinance shall immediatelly go into effect for new construction and be phased in over...

https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B2HfheOzQfp5VG5TWXhXRENiX2pld01vdUY5TGQwLWNyZU1v/view?usp=sharing they left a number of gaping holes that means everything they want to block can still happen under it. this is what they want to stop (a) Regulated Activities. Except as provided in this section, the C...

Oh I agree that this isn't a major freakout or anything. It would just be really easy to have the garages in back off an alley, so I don't understand the reasoning. the original alley was legally vacated for both sides of De Groff. we're talking about needing to deal with the specific land ownershi...

seems like? The Royal is a cooking contest with some animal shows on the side. there was a piece somewhere that pointed out the BBQ contest basically funds the rest of the royal. when you add the city subsidy and cheap rent their threatening to move won't happen if they loose the BBQ contest. Just l...

99% of suburbanites and a good amount of people who live in the city don't even really know this park exists. that's because it's a pain to get there if you don't know how. I'm quite good at navigating around KC and it's one of those places I can be within two blocks of an entrance and still have t...

What does the American Royal really have to do with the BBQ contest, other than label?
If the Royal relocates, is the bbq in the bottoms 'forced' to end somehow?

if you looked in the pits for the streetcar utility work you know it's a crazy maze of stuff underground
I worked one time with the guy whose job it was to mark utilities in the sidewalk. they marked a bunch of them and the group doing the actual work still found a pipe that was missed.

I am ok with the setback if the setback becomes super nice landscaped areas open to the public. then let the home develop right up to that line you then take that model and have the street width that fits the needs with cars, bikes, bus and train all mixed in as appropriate. our boulevards were desi...

I did. I pointed out I use Macken Park the most to prove a point. For the youth programs needed, I put restrooms. They'll never get serious programs to use the parks more without them. Macken is THE urban park for KCMO. multiple trails/a fitness train, a variety of sports fields, multiple playground...

And are you talking about that nasty, rotten garage at 9th and Wyandotte? I thought that it was structurally unsound? Like by a long shot. You're telling me it could handle a tower atop it? the top deck is in bad shape. the ground level is fine from what I remember the original plan was to tear out...

Or we could move the BBQ event up into downtown: Perhaps around Union Station, Berkley Riverfront Park, or the City Market area. One might be able to do it by shutting down Walnut. That wouldn't cause as many traffic problems as Grand. Or they could do it in the East Village parking lots until that...

I lived in the northland from 1990-2000, 2004-2006. It's not "maybe so" because that's what happened. and parts of the northland are slowly going more dense. around Gladstone City hall, Northgate Village, Briarcliff West, . we're seeing the same in old Overland Park. So it's possible. Nort...
