Re: Statewide transportation sales tax coming in 2014
I voted yes for the following reasons. 1. We need it. 2. It's more than just automotive projects (not as much as I like but a start) 3. I prefer a toll road funding for the interstates but that is never going to happen. 4. I don't like the sales tax, but food and medical is excluded, so I can capit...

Re: Union Station
All those train sheds were needed when Union Station handled 200 trains a day that would require trains sitting to have luggage and freight loaded and unloaded. I doubt commuter rail would ever require that number of side rail lines, or that rail lines would require be tied up that long with a sitt...

Re: Union Station
With this picture I can now totally see why it will cost so much to bring commuter rail to Union Station: https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/Oe_bU71FZLVAfPs6uolRjONHDgfBKTkLtcxd1Epgx8M=s209-p-no I know, most likely pie in the sky, but it would be nice if KCMO figured out a way to buy Two Pershing Squ...

Re: Statewide transportation sales tax coming in 2014
rumor mill indicates the state legislature could actually raise the gas tax without a vote of the people. modot continues to insist they can't toll, but they have a valid waiver from the feds saying they can toll existing I-70 lanes and there currently isn't a state prohibition on it (which is why ...

Re: Kansas, Missouri battle over companies
I've mentioned this before on other threads (probably this one). Our current border war--using incentives--serves as a method for big firms to jump back and forth across the border to take advantage of each state's incentive packages. CBIZ moves to Kansas. Once the incentives are no longer of benef...

Dave, if you have a chance would you mind letting us know what "streetcar+" means? Although, I may have personally missed it in the forum. - north loop redux - katy trail connection to KCMO (rock island ROW) - KCATA operating and capital support ultimately, these are the reasons i was swa...

Good point.

Re: We need a new airport!!!
Seems reasonable: Southwest Airlines Co. is keeping its mind open as plans move forward on Kansas City International Airport's future....the planning will move ahead in the way that airlines and airports usually handle big capital developments. That calls for doing two things before moving ahead......

Re: Why does metro KC have so many transit entities?
No it's not. I will (and do) walk 300 yards down a decent city street any day. I will not walk 300 yards across parking lots unless I really must. I am not alone. I agree. Even walking through the "East Village" (which is nothing more than a couple of buildings, fields, and surface lots) ...

Re: Why does metro KC have so many transit entities?
Walkability isn't solely defined by the distance one must walk to get to Destination A from Transit Stop X. Much more important factors are things like the density of destinations within a 5-10 minute walk of Transit Stop X, and whether the environment that 5-10 minute walk occurs in is, well, walk...

I think there were food trucks, but we only covered a few blocks and didn't see any. It would be easy enough to have them dispersed on the sidestreets or on a centrally located block. I ran into Yael at the Blackbird Revue show. We were both kind of in disbelief at how great an event it was. The ba...

Re: Statewide transportation sales tax coming in 2014
Dave, what's your take on the transportation tax? I'm inclined to vote against it, since it gives MODOT 90% of the funds basically to do with as it pleases, and naturally that means highways. Much of the money apparently will go towards paying down the bonds that MODOT issued to fund highway mainte...

my read is that "swap" implies what park space remains will be public, in exchange for building private structures on the flanks. Yeah but it seems it wouldn't feel public....but maybe it will be wider than I'm thinking it will be. Difficult to tell, but here's a picture I took over the w...
