Re: Global Overpopulation (or not)

If you are interested in population trends, I suggest looking at Hans Rosling's site: http://www.gapminder.org/ It shows a good set of charts about developed world growth vs developing world. In any case, despite the very painful transition period as our Baby Boomers retire then pass on, an S-curve ...

A ramen and Japanese curry place would be great.

That or a dedicated hot-pot place.

Re: New KC Zoo Penguin Exhibit

What surprised me was that there was a single tank for several species of penguins rather than separate exhibits for each (like in St Louis). This means that as you progress through the exhibit you see basically a different angle on the same thing rather than different species. I remember the main ...

Re: Crown Center: urban disaster, shining star, or in-betwee

KC seems to have Vietnamese well covered but not Thai so much (although SE Asian is blurring together in general). JoCo has a few good Thai but not really any good ones on MO side. Pretty much because the vast majority of Thais live in JOCO, with the second majority in the Northland. The few who ac...

Re: Bridgeport Church moving into El Torreon Ballroom

Among my peers, I can count the vocally religious I know on one hand, and among younger generations, I don't know any. Could it simply be generational perception? Because if, by "vocal religious", you mean not just devout or even church-going but prone to impart their faith into almost an...

Re: Thailand 2012-onward

As is the case of Thai politics, there is another anti-corruption rally going around and heating up against the current prime minister. So there have been more than a few demonstrations going past my house. https://fbcdn-sphotos-f-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-frc3/1466114_10152444642564951_1222581256_n...

Re: Free Diner

Man, that's a hell of a nice (if weathered) example of a classic diner. Can't think of a good spot for it, though. Maybe on a surface lot downtown? It looks like it could quite nicely in the Crossroads if nestled on a corner. Instead making it a restaurant, DT could use a soda fountain and shake sh...

Some razor wire will liven that right up.

I like how the fence slightly obscures the signs as well.

Re: New KC Zoo Penguin Exhibit

On the upshot, it probably wouldn't take much to overall the facade of the place if they get around to it. Really, all that matters is that the habitat is up to date and a good collection is provided. So the penguins are completely closed off? If so, I can see why, but personally, I actually liked t...

Have they got the self sustaining part of the restaurant going? Like the Tilapia farm in the basement? When I ate there last Christmas, they were just getting it started and the fish were too immature to eat. They had it running when I went in May. A bit of a late review, but I went there with my f...

Agreed that while I liked Boulevard's independent status, it looked like this was done pragmtically with everybody's interest in mind.
And all things considered, Duvel seems like a pretty decent company.

Re: KC Zoo - Great Ape House (save or raze?)

I love the idea of putting a climbing wall in there and letting the immature primates who live outside the zoo play on it. Hey! There are plenty of immature primates who live inside the city that would love to play on it. One could probably turn the structure into a cool City Museum-esque playground.

Re: KC Zoo - Great Ape House (save or raze?)

It'd be a good aviary or, like flyingember mentioned, something for smaller animals (there needs to be a reptile house). As mentioned observation deck would indeed be neat. People could go up via elevator or spiral staircase in the middle with the cage structure still housing various arboreal critte...

Re: The Xroads First Friday Thread...

Those "photos of girls underwater" photos remind me why I don't really think photography can be art. What makes a film/sensor behind a set of lens any less worthy of creating art than a bunch of pigments suspended in linseed oil and moved around with a set of bristles? To create compositi...

Re: Expanding the City Market

There should not be concrete or sidewalks inside the River Market boundaries. I have always thought this needs to be a European style plaza with fountains inside. You can still drive a car on it, but it should be some kind of patterned stone. The entire inside of the River Market should allow for r...

Replace the lots around 5th/Main and 3rd/Grand with multistory garages containing 1st floor retail. Increase walkability and amenities along 5th St, between City Market and Columbus Park, as a way to increase pedestrian traffic and potentially foster the natural development of an official Internatio...

Re: Does downtown need a large playground?

If we put a playground among the downtown towers, I fully expect the playground to be just as towering. I want to see a four story jungle gym (enclosed, of course), giant structures to climb on...all of the good stuff, just larger. When kids see this playground, I want them to be instantly bored wi...

Wasn't this topic already raised before?

In any case, there's nothing about the border war (the name of that old Mizzou/KU game was ****ing retarded; ****, most D1 sport rivalries are full retard) that either side should be proud of.
