Re: New Loop?

kdot has done a study of transportation in the 5-county area. see pages 9 and 10 of their strategies draft : http://www.5countystudy.org/pdfs/5_county_strategies_101812.pdf this draft identifies projects totalling nearly $5.2 billion to build the outer loop. to kdot's credit, these projects all rank...

Re: KC Commuter Rail

it's ironic that this thread has 'deviated' so far from commuter rail, given that there's so much to talk about concerning the commuter rail proposal that has just been put on the table. incidentally, as transit action network tweeted just yesterday, the "lpa" presented to 'stakeholders' o...

Re: KCMO Downtown Streetcar

transit action network has reported that marc's stp (surface transportation program) committee has recommended $16 million of federal money for the kansas city streetcar project. this represents 80 percent of the cost of purchasing 4 streetcar vehicles (estimated cost $5 million each), and 16 percen...

Re: Johnson County Transit (The JO)

groundbreaking is tomorrow morning (wednesday, july 18) at 8:30 for the jo's new tiger-funded transit center at 5251 johnson drive in mission. if the service cuts go through, the transit center will open next year with 70 percent fewer routes and 30 percent less service.

Re: KCATA Comprehensive Service Analysis

it looks like the major changes to 20-plus routes that took effect july 1 have been relatively uneventful. a lot of schedule posters out on the street were late getting updated, and some are still just temporary posters. there have been some complaints about the smaller buses on route 28, but that w...

Re: Johnson County Transit (The JO)

if you haven't already done so, take a look at the 5-minute interview that janet rogers of transit action network did with henry fortunato, director of public affairs, kansas city public library. henry is transit dependent by choice and he's super articulate about the jo. http://transactionkc.com/20...

Re: Johnson County Transit (The JO)

i attended both public meetings. attendance was light at the morning one, but good -- maybe 30 or so actual transit riders -- at the evening one. (interestingly, there were 3 or 4 bocc members and 3 or 4 johnson county transportation council members at the evening meeting.) i was impressed by the pr...

Re: KC Commuter Rail

not to be picky, but "commuter brt on 71" seems like an oxymoron. maybe it's brt (lite) on the arterial streets, but once it hits 71 it's an express bus -- unless somebody thinks modot is going to give (or build) them a reserved lane. the next open house is next tuesday evening at the sout...

Re: KC Commuter Rail

there indications that the decision on a locally preferred alternative in the commuter corridors is being delayed. that would indicate that a jackson county ballot question concerning transit is probably not going to happen this year.

i can't see the image, but i don't have to. i can understand replacing signs downtown, but is replacing several thousand signs citywide the best use of scarce city money? (hint: i think not.)

Re: KC Commuter Rail

prospects for "commuter rail" don't look good, according to transit action network's analysis of the commuter corridors study data that's been released so far: http://wp.me/pV5fE-Tj costs are too high, ridership projections too low, and commuter rail offers no significant speed advantage o...
