Re: Liberty Memorial might be best

Yeah, that's just not a great location.  It doesn't even seem to fit.  I still think the best location is west of Union Station. You get all the same benefits and only have to tear down a few parking garages.  I don't anyone would be opposed to that concept.

Re: Is there no hope for Brush Creek Riverwalk?

The best thing to do would be to make a more concerted effort to connect it with the Trolly Track Trail.  That trail is used all the time by pedestrians and bicyclists.  Currently, it is difficult to get from one to the other.  And I agree with the problem of having to turn around.  There should...

Re: I need help regarding Skies

Yeah, I was never a fan of the food either.  The reason is because there isn't actually a restaurant up there.  They have to bring the food up from the basement in an elevator and so it's not always hot.  It always seemed to me to be a place where unimaginative guys would take their girlfriends to g...

$30M is about what we spent on the Max bus.  Why couldn't we have done this with the money instead?

Re: Turn Old H&R Block Building into Art Museum

To me, it just looks like an art museum.  It's has somewhat contemporary architecture and would have plenty of room.  The new Max bus stop across the street says, 'Art Museums'.  It just got me thinking.

Turn Old H&R Block Building into Art Museum

I'm not sure what H&R Block is planning on doing with their old HQ next to the Plaza, but that would be a great place for an art museum.  Perhaps there could be an offshoot of the Kemper with a different period of type reflected.  It just seems to me that with the location of the Nelson and Kemp...

Best Loft Under $200,000

I've heard some talk of very little mid- and lower-cost lofts for sale in the downtown market.  Can you even buy a loft downtown for under $200K? And if so, what would be the best buy?

Re: Main Street MAX

Your idea to put the trolleys in the middle is a good one, but you would have to have room to accommodate two rails and stations and create a safe way to move people from the center of Main to the sides.  This could be done by taking one of the parking lanes away from Main Street. That wasn't real...

Re: Westport Flea Market GONE?

Exactly, overrated. And, as stated earlier, I'm not excited about a 'lame-ass Hooters' going in.

Here's a few hamburgers that I'd prefer:
Max's
Winstead's
McCoy's -buffalo burger
Mike's Tavern
Town Topic
Steak & Shake
Fuddruckers- if ever in KS

Re: Main Street MAX

The trolly style transits look interesting and they seem to take up less space.  Because they run right on the shoulder next to the sidewalk do they take up less room than a car lane?  If so, is there room on Main street for those type lines going in both directions AND a center turning lane?  I thi...

Re: Westport Flea Market GONE?

Don't get me wrong... I'm not excited at all about the Hooter's going in.  Personally, I think the best thing would be to build on the success of place like the Bluestem and Napoleon Bakery to turn the neighborhood more high end.  The Sonic across the street doesn't help much with that, but, that co...

Re: Downtown weddings

There is a rooftop apartment in San Francisco tower that is beautiful and has a huge deck overlooking downtown.  I can't remember the ladies name, her husbands a lawyer in Parkville, but you might contact them to see if they could help you out.  Asian feel with elevator to second floor.

Re: Westport Flea Market GONE?

I just don't get the outrage over losing the Fleamarket.  The place is a dump! It's headless manequins, junk cages, and vampire lighting mediocre food isn't worth saving.  They don't even take credit cards!  Who doesn't take credit cards anymore?  Even the Mexican restaurants on the Blvd. now take c...

Re: MacKenzie House development - new 61 unit project near Plaza

perhaps the people approving these buildings are the people who are paying for them and living in them.  I have no financial stake in someone else's private home, why should I have veto power on the design? Is that what you said about the West End project before it was redesigned to fit the neighb...

Re: MacKenzie House development - new 61 unit project near Plaza

Agreed, but how is this different from what's been happening in the suburbs for the past few decades? People wanted to live in the 'burbs, so some developers responded by building houses that were more about quantity (i.e., square footage) than quality (e.g., craftsmanship, architectutal detail). N...

Re: MacKenzie House development - new 61 unit project near Plaza

I agree.  These are very unimaginative.  They remind me of rowed duplexes from the 80's.  And premade stucco sections are disgusting.  Where are the people who are fighting this kind of crap?

They should call the Westside 'little California'.  There are more people from the Crazy coast moving in and pushing the salt of the Earth out everyday.
