Re: OFFICIAL - Arena construction

agreed. maybe Gehry would come up with a crappy plan. in that case, i'd say ditch him. i guess the PROSPECT of the world's most famous architect helping to design a $250M building in KC is just pretty awesome. that's my whole point. a bad design is a bad design no matter where it comes from. i've go...

Re: OFFICIAL - Arena construction

ok Captain Skeptical... of course he hasn't had that much experience with arenas... THAT'S WHERE HOK COMES IN. HOK doesn't have experience building great looking buildings. THAT'S WHERE GEHRY (or someone like him) COMES IN. that's my whole argument. maybe i am just an avant-garde architecture fanati...

Re: OFFICIAL - Arena construction

exhibit one: NJ Nets arena. exhibit two: extensive portfolio of great buildings. i am sure that HOK would be doing the "arena" stuff while Gehry would be doing the aesthetic stuff. both are uniquely qualified to do each. heh, i like how i am the Gehry apologist. clearly i am the only one h...

Re: OFFICIAL - Arena construction

heheh. i think the evidence can be seen at HOK's webpage. their portfolio is extensive. their projects are all high quality facilities to be sure, but lacking in the aesthetic department. i don't know about the other "3 largest," but it's difficult to become that huge by pushing too many b...

Re: OFFICIAL - Arena construction

^ sure, others can. it's just that most DONT. i dont care if it's "Gehry" or another influential, creative architect. i'd be just as cool with a Koolhaus or (another) safdie or something like that. HOK are great at what they do, but i think having someone like Gehry (if not Gehry himself) ...

Re: OFFICIAL - Arena construction

^ hopefully HOK would rein in such eccentricities. i think having the arena designed by Gehry would be a huge boost to downtown's stature. i dont care if 9 of 10 kansas citians think it's ugly (most think his work IS ugly), but i think it's a good idea to have a bold landmark building. it can be a s...

Cafe Trocadero

i read in the pitch that Trocadero fired the head chef. sounds like he was the force behind the quality food...hope they can recover.

that's a blow to a neighborhood many are arguing was "developed too prematurely." check out the pitch.

JO CO named #7 best county in US

i am pleased that a metro county was included in the list, since many folks who read the lists think they are legitimate. it's just a tad frustrating that the counties included on lists like this are 99% of the time just like JoCo. JoCo is a great example of a whitebread suburban county (that is lar...
