Re: Weird Stuff Antiques sold building at 901 Tracy

A buffer zone and a reliable low density industrial tax base, which to city coffers is preferable to the original working class housing that existed there pre-1960. This same mentality gives us the massive KCATA warehouses on 18th street, the budweiser distributor on 18th, past Woodland, and the sma...

Re: New Broadway Bridge

For reference, the blue is the extent of Interstate Highway, I-35/I-70. The Lewis & Clark Viaduct and north loop would be the US-24 boulevard, with local access. This could candle the exiting from the freeways for the north side of the loop, without all of the terrible interchanges that exist no...

Re: New Broadway Bridge

Just do this! One big plan! See - Broadway has DIRECT access off the west side of the loop. Local traffic on the FORMER north loop (which is now a boulevard, serving all of downtown's exiting needs) interacts directly with this new Broadway access at an interchange that would be over the west edge o...

Re: KCMO Downtown Streetcar

According to the Kansas City Star's book 'A Splendid Ride' "The local transit company also showed its confidence in street rail by extending the tracks and wires of its Troost Avenue line from 55th Street eight blocks south to 63rd. That construction, which took place in mid-1947, was rare in t...

Re: Beacon Hill

Critical, that is only partially true. Sources tell me that the overall product will be a major improvement over Oak Place, in terms of design and finish - although the actual units themselves will be similar to Oak Place. The exterior of the building and the overall relationship to the urban enviro...

Re: wtf is happening to w. 39th?!

The metal cladding on top of the building connected to the west of Missie Bs is being removed. Not sure what the plan is, but the brick on the second floor is becoming visible - looks nice. Wasn't that building a small movie theater a long time ago? And wasn't it a venue for rock shows in the early...

Re: Beacon Hill

Construction is well underway for the UMKC Hospital Hill/Beacon Hill Student Apartments at 2401 Troost. This is a large four story building which will run from 24th all the way to 'Beacon Lane, facing Troost with interior courtyards on the alley side. You can see the retaining walls and footings und...

Re: Bars of yesteryear

There is a book about Sanderson's, written by the last owner, who also lived in Walnut Tower. I think it makes mention of the bar next door on 8th street. http://www.amazon.com/Sandersons-Lunch-Arthur-W-Lamb/dp/1890622303 I have a copy of it. A good read. http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/519DJ6...

Re: KCMO Downtown Streetcar

Why don't we simply stencil 'CARSTOP' at the stops, include a bench, a map and a farebox, and call it wonderful? Just like we used to! http://www.kchistory.org/cgi-bin/getimage.exe?CISOROOT=/Hargrave&CISOPTR=85&DMSCALE=100.00000&DMWIDTH=750&DMHEIGHT=977.34375&DMX=0&DMY=0&...

Re: We need a new airport!!!

He then said this entire thing is being financially driven by parking, so parking will be encouraged - he also seemed to think the only significant users of the airport would be those who would never use transit. Serious question. At what point in time in the future do you foresee street car or lig...

Re: We need a new airport!!!

new terminal is a great opportunity to properly address transit access, even though it won't be rail for decades (if ever). a shared use trail and bike lockers could make a new terminal one of the few in the world to offer such access. and yes, i'm serious about that. the current terminals are 100%...

I also noticed this sign on a building at 29th Cherry just a block to the east: http://img809.imageshack.us/img809/1631/2900cherry.png I'm not sure if this sign is new, or if I am just noticing it. A quick search of the number reveals it appears to belong to Abdiana. The sign has been there for a w...

I do not like the angled crosswalks. They break up the natural pattern of the street.

It could be more like this -

Re: Historic Old Northeast

I am always for infrastructure improvements, but this plan is overdone. Why so suburban? Designers need to actually study what makes the built environment and infrastructure of Kansas City unique - and therefore attractive, as it is singular. These appear to be knee-jerk improvements.
