Demolition of Downtown Fabric Continues......

i think i agree with you. i doubt the property owner has any designs on the property besides running it into the ground and then selling the land, but if the building is still essentially sound then he could clean up and tuck point the brick shell, maybe add some sort of simple and clean decorative ...

i would assume they weren't. they look like a quickpaint render in formz, so you can rotate the image quickly and get a general idea of the building massing and its formal relationship with itself and other buildings, like the post office. i doubt its a finish rendering. at my office we do this, whe...

i'll have to ask him.
all i've seen is the rendering, which looks more like a great wall than an inviting place.

but he was very reassuring, for all that's worth.

right on. i forwarded a friend of mine who is working on the IRS project to this board to look at the all of the concerns. part of his response was that its true the building will be monolithic and will lack a relationship to broadway, but apparently there is some nice detailing and finish work arou...

thats downtown kcmo for you.... i'd hate to link to certain pictures and show how much has been lost in the past 40 years. but, this particular building has been parking since the 1930's, according to that link, so i guess there's not much to do with it except maybe rip out the parking decks and bas...

i agree. the location wouldn't be as integrated as a site at, say, 16th and main, or 8th and central. but here one isn't closing off more streets (enough seem to be closing now anyway) further taking away from the grid of downtown. also, this does not demolish any buildings, which seems to be a hot ...

you are right, it won't work, but mainly i think because of the new parking garage. on the graphic i posted, there is an image of kauffman stadium superimposed over the yard. i am assuming you could build the right field upper deck over the existing freight building, which i highlighted in blue in t...

okay, just a quick exercise. at a relatively similar scale, here is Kauffman on the Parking Garage site near West of Union Station. I know the Left field could also be shortened. notice all of the opportunity for development around it (including the IRS site) and the access to I-35 via SW boulevard ...

in fact, it is large enough for an adapted stadium. i did some research a few years ago and a stadium would be extremely feasable. according to local plat maps and scalable contour maps, there would be enough room to build a stadium from the long low frieght handling building along pershing to the b...

right! I was thinking about visiting that enclave of urban design, the town cetner shops, and strolling between my car and shops for a few hours or so. what a lovely place! then i would get in my car again to cross metcalf to visit the Rosanna Square... i'm not sure they have pedestrian crossing lan...

i think always and never, in the case of downtown kansas city, have proven to be obsolete generalizations. I think alot of things that have happened over the last five years have canceled an old "never" or "always" adjective, ie, 911 walnut will never be developed, the vista del ...

There is one other stretch in the River Market that has angle-in parking-- along Walnut Street in front of Planters, near the main entrance to the City Market. also, the area along oak street between missouri and independence avenue, as it turns back to grand and wraps the little muelebach building...

i've heard recently that originally crown center or a development like it was proposed for the east side of downtown, from Charlotte to Paseo, and something like Admiral Boulevard to Truman. Of course, this never happened. The reasoning for not doing this according to the person who told me this was...

the awning above the front door will be repaired.
also, the rendering is old... there won't be any new balconies on the building, now that its not residential.
