Re: Is there a plan to restore the former Apollo Theater on Troost?

Some artists lease the disused, labyrinthine mini-mall inside the former Apollo.    Of note inside are the activist bookstore (relocated from Crossroads) + an inactive 100-seat movie theater that splits time as a gallery and hip-hop venue.

Does any club foreseen in the P+L hold this reputation?

Re: Sky Box

Hey dudes, isn't that pub right across from Skybox, why, yes, its the River Market Brewery.

I know of some folks nearby, they often let Federal agents access their roof to keep an eye on Kabal, and I assume that new den of ill repute.

Re: Favorite KC area local restaurants

My favorite dinners are at YJ's- top ingredients, 'round 8 bucks nightly.  Addis Ababa, too, good to see their staying power.

YJ's, D'Bronx and La Sala's for lunchtime sandwiches.

Best breakfast has gotta be the signature sandwich Dagwood's Diner.

Re: Closed Bars and Restaurants

Here in Westport today, Mario's Delicatessan (sp?) has brown paper taped over its windows and a 'Closed' sign on the door.  Redecorating or deceased?  Anybody know?

Re: new vinyl?

Doesn't seem so.  The entryway is convoluted and the stock was unorganized in stacks and rows of stacks.  Here's a fun rumor.  DJ Shadow was visiting town last year and Rooks turned down a 1.5 million offer for it all.

Re: new vinyl?

I met Ron Rooks one night at Connie's Gennessee Inn, a bar near Kemper.  He holla'd at my group and asked us up.  The warehouse facility is enormous, and packed w/ records and music memorabilia.  Probably 30K square feet.  Absurd.

KCK fascinates- just look at photographs of Minnesota Ave. last century and then visit, shop some bustling thrifts, place an order at Nick's Italian Pizza, sit at a booth and feel your head implode.

Re: I'm Dreaming of a Good Old-Fashioned Diner Downtown

The owner of the Busy Bee's building was interviewed on the same KMBZ News segment as Stretch.  Grinder's and he are neighbors.  He wants some tax-help, but is ineligible for the 'arts clause' and of course isn't a Multinational nor is he a major league sports team.  The Busy Bee's homey, midwestern...

The windows are tall and open, however, the balcony, damn it's gone.  I don't know the rental rate but there's a phone # on that storefront.

Zz... Oh, what were we talking about?  Oh, a new martini bar.  Yeah, its going in that 17th + Oak first floor space.  The owner guy said so.  The permit thing is at the link.
