Re: Fixing the KC Zoo (ongoing)
I like the idea of an aquarium but not really sure its the direction the KC Zoo should go in. The Zoo is very spread out and should devote it's funds to infilling it's vacant spaces with new animal species. Since Wistoff has arrived, he's concentrated on rides, playgrounds and food venues and a cou...

Re: Fixing the KC Zoo (ongoing)
Zoo is looking at $75 million aquarium to rival Henry Doorly Zoo in Omaha. 700k-750k gallon tanks one for warm water one for cold water species. Targeting 2021-2022 opening. $20 million private donations committed, looking for $7 million from city (from the general obligation bond). Rest would be pa...

Re: We need a new airport!!!
Yeah, again I don’t think the original roof that was presented was some sort of new architectural achievement. It just wasn’t some flat big box roof. It is interesting and appealing. This is a $1.4 Billion airport terminal, I don’t think a better architectural design is too much to ask for. I agree ...

Re: We need a new airport!!!
Are you sure that roof was visible from inside? What about changing the roof makes it world class? What makes you think there aren’t other aspects that are better places to spend money. I would take $10 million and get the best seating possible instead so when people hit the gate they have a premiu...

Re: We need a new airport!!!
I will wait and see before I make put in my 2 cents. But, for right now, the renderings are of poor quality. SOM must be working on a very tight budget right now. Both B&M, and Aecoms renderings were light years better than these and they hadn't even been paid yet! None of their renderings were...

Re: Phase 2 streetcar to UMKC
I agree. Now if we could get a better analysis on why the scalloped roof was dropped in favor of a flat roof design for the airport, I'll be a happy camperKCPowercat wrote: ↑Mon Aug 20, 2018 1:02 pm I was center running fan but the analysis makes me a believer

Re: We need a new airport!!!
Funny you mentioned Galveston. I was down there this summer and my wife and I commented on the waves of the concrete median. So, yes that caught our attention and I think that's the point of design. It's meant to soften things and not make structures so utilitarian. That's what most of us are upset ...

Anyone know if Zahner is part of this team? I'm guessing they would have some cool ideas for the roof.

Re: We need a new airport!!!
I get that prices are going up everywhere, we can't control that. Honestly, I do notice roof design quite often. Denver's roof is too low in most of the concourses, makes it feel more cramped than it really is. Sacramento's terminal has a nice sweeping scalloped roof and it it draws your eye to it. ...

Re: We need a new airport!!!
What’s wrong with an airport with a flat roof and no fountain? Does the shape of the roof have anything to do with how well it moves people around? Do you think most people are upset that costs are being kept under control by taking out a feature that is nice but provides no utility in exchange for...

Except why release them if you don't want them to be scrutinized?? I imagine a lot of man hours went into those images to be released to the general public and if that's the case I am slightly concerned about the firm's attention to detail. AECOM had a fly through video before they were even selected.

Re: We need a new airport!!!
I agree that removing the scalloped roof design is a mistake and makes this airport more 'meh'. I'm okay with removing the indoor two story fountain, it just seemed like a logistical nightmare and it took up a lot of space. Surprisingly, the bathroom looked decent. My main concerns still is with the...

Isn't that why the created the 'sky bridge' between the ballroom and hotel?!? Essentially limiting the need to close Wyandotte?flyingember wrote: ↑Thu Aug 02, 2018 10:19 am
I picture Wyandotte being closed for conventions more often.

Re: Politics
Obama described this situation in the best way in a Politico article: Obama mocked Trump and others for being among the angry: “They’re mad even when they win.” Trump’s executive actions and legal maneuvers to cut down Obamacare after failing to repeal it in Congress are a perfect example of what he...

Kennedy gone is going to suck for those of us wanting to see us progress as a nation. While I didn't always agree with his vote, I felt he tried to really interpret the law to the best of his ability without much political bias.
