Re: hyde park: believe the hype?

Ooh a McDonald's, just what the neighborhood needs. Man, somebody really needs to take a chance on Troost. That's what the road and neighborhood really need. No one is really willing to take a major risk. We need someone to try and open up a nice, quality restaurant/ bar. I think that would get peop...

Re: Big, empty buildings. What's left?

While I agree that the idea of a Cerner tower is pure fantasy, given management's preference for the suburban form AND the city's blatant willingness to kick in tons of incentives for such, it is sad that it is the only real company in the metro capable of building on that scale at this time. They ...

Re: Big, empty buildings. What's left?

Haha oh wow, I had never seen that before. Yes that is a good example. Of course it depends on many factors, not just height, because there are good examples too. New York City has a couple buildings like this, and especially did with the Twin Towers back in the day. They were much taller than the r...

Re: Big, empty buildings. What's left?

I only proposed Paseo West because it's mostly industrial now. Many of the lots have few, or no buildings, on them. Some of the parcels that do have buildings really aren't worth saving anyway. This neighborhood would be a way to add towers to downtown office space and be able to hide parking under...

Don't forget Prospero's on 39th. I don't know if their new space on Broadway has records, but I have found many interesting titles downstairs at the 39th street location.

Re: Big, empty buildings. What's left?

That's insane. So if it all went into one skyscraper, are we talking it would maybe be the tallest building in the world? lol not quite but it would be among the biggest buildings in the world. One World Trade Center is 3.5 million square feet. Burj Khalifa is 6 million square feet the cerner campu...

Re: Big, empty buildings. What's left?

Neal Patterson likes surface lots, reportedly because they reward those who arrive first to work with a shorter walk. Any Cerner downtown skyscraper fantasy is just that. Yes - I would be willing to get up at 5 AM to be able to save myself one minute of walking. What's sad is that there are actuall...

Re: Broadway

So I was messing around with some potential plans for this site on sketch-up and started to realize that the plan they had stated in the article would eliminate all potential for parking (or so I thought). The site seemed way too small to house everything they wanted without parking (which seemed aw...

Re: Big, empty buildings. What's left?

I would be all for Cerner in, or around, downtown, but not that block. My pie-in-the-sky dream would be for Cerner to have redeveloped Paseo West and build several different-sized towers on six or seven blocks--maintaining the block integrity and street layout. There is an opportunity there to rebu...

Re: Big, empty buildings. What's left?

The B of E block should be packaged with the almost cleared block to the west as a superblock(as McGee through Sprint Center was vacated). Such a parcel in such a prime area cries out for a really big project. Ideal for a massive tower too large for a single block. Parking structure could occupy mo...

Re: Kansas City Board of Trade sold

So is that the view facing north (48th street). It's already among my favorite streets in all of the KC Metro - very urbane feel - this will be a nice addition although I didn't think the existing Board of Trade Building is all that bad. Imagine if they build the tower on top of the garage they are...

Re: Broadway

It's actually a pretty decent looking building. Definitely one of the more attractive in that stretch of Broadway. I'd hate to see the facade ripped off. That's something we'll probably regret in the next decade or so. Has MAC released renderings of how they are renovating the old Housing Authority...

That's absurd.
Yea, why do they need to make U-turns? Can't they just go around the block?

Re: Broadway

Wow, I'm really impressed with this plan and wasn't expecting that at all. A facade change with balconies could potentially make this a good looking building. At this moment I find it horrid. And the best part is the additional structures. Hiding all the parking and adding residential in a variety o...

Re: Proposed apartment for 13th and Walnut - One Light

what matters to me is the ground level experience. i could care less if they're all the same design or not. Yes, as much as the design is important I would take 4 identical towers if they looked good on the street and all had retail with their parking hidden. If they are all towers sitting on above...

Re: Proposed apartment for 13th and Walnut - One Light

I like that building a lot. That would look great there, and I would love to see this building be at least 35 stories. The demand is there. As for the Truman Road issue, they might as well just design it so that it faces Truman. Just in case we cap the loop, which I feel is pretty likely someday (ma...

I don't see how a McDonald's wouldn't work downtown. It would be the first place on the planet where it didn't if so. I think some of you are underestimating the popularity of the golden arches. The place would be packed, guaranteed. Sure, most residents wouldn't eat there often (though they would s...

Walk by the old Globe tonight for the first time in a while. This building looks absolutely beautiful! What a great renovation. It's all lit up too, showing off for everyone to see.

It's so nice to see an old beauty come back to life.

Businesses owners need to get their employees off on-street parking...they seem to side with their employees parking there but have to get that it's just hurting customer's ability to park for dinner at their restaurant. I do disagree that people wouldn't pay for valet....people will pay for parkin...
