while other cities

It's not all good news for MetroLink. They have had to cut back on bus service in order to keep the rail service running. They did this in Dallas, too. They built a beautiful new rail system, which has plenty of riders. I was there last week, riding the red line, and I spotted a notice on the wall ...

Thoughts on Main St. in Midtown

I live two blocks off Main on East Armour, and I love that the 56-line frequents it, but honestly, how difficult would it be to remove two lanes from the 6-lane street, from 10th to 47th(just over 4 1/5 miles) and put in a rail line? I think the issue is, and always has been taxes. So why not use lo...

Has the Plaza fallen off?

Or maybe a BEST BUY, with a big convenient parking lot where Mill Creek Park used to be!

Downtown Baseball stadium talk firing up

On one hand, I think moving the stadium downtown is a bad idea. It would be prohibitively expensive, and it would be tough convincing suburban folks to leave their cars somewhere downtown, and walk around, there. On the other hand, I think it would be invaluable in revitalizing the area, as many man...

covering the loop?

In that time, KC has increased in size by just over 6000 people. That's 1.38% population growth in ten years. In my opinion, that's pretty pathetic. I would love to see the north side of the loop get covered. Expressways are terrible eyesores and noise-pullutants, and it's always great when a city d...

Excited for the new library?

Does anyone else find it amusing that the parking deck occupies more land than the library? I know, I know. The deck probably has things on top of it, but I still think it's funny.

Should we do away with one ways?

How can you get lost in a downtown grid?

One-way streets add to charm, and pleasantly to me, make it more of a pain to drive without thinking about it. It makes people look at signs, and pay attention to their driving.

In addition, it makes taking the bus more favorable. :)

Alternate way to fund an urban core transit system

It looks like a noble plan, but noble as it may be, nobody's going to vote for a tax increase. And, should a property tax increase somehow pass, it will just chase even more moneyed people out of the urban core, magnifying the problems the city has. It's because of things like this that Home Depot a...

That would be very cool. One thing I love about "The Taste of $CITY" events is the appearance of really good places that not many people have heard of.

Well, I'm referring to the apartments, as I am still a largely penniless twenty-something, unable to purchase a home.

Subway?

Well, I'm no franchise sandwich expert, but I don't think the sandwiches were ever called "subway sandwiches," until the Subway chain came along. I'm fairly certain that people just called them hoagies or submarine sandwiches.

I am thinking about volunteering to pour some beer, but I'm very glad they've moved it to this location. I will also be at Oktoberfest, and I was there for New Belgium's Tour de Fat, back in May. Great venue. I always enjoy it.

Did anyone see my post? It can and will stay vital and cultured if they tax the value of the land instead of the porperty value.

Re: Proposed reduction in KCATA service

Don't widen roads, put up tollstops on the major highways, get rid of the mandatory off-street parking requirement of most businesses, tax land, eliminate municipal tax on labor/property. These things will: -Increase property values -Increase the urban(and suburban) population -Increase employment/e...

Tax breaks for Crossroads artists?

No. They should be taxed on the value of the land, not on the appraisal of their property. The latter encourages places to get crappy and stay that way.

KC v. Tulsa v. Fort Worth: Whose overhaul base closes??

I have no love for entitled businesses, regardless of how "dependent" we are on them. If they don't work, something else will. Let it.
