Re: Clay Chastain coming back with light rail

So what are you expecting of Clay?  He does not have the resources to plan every detail in advance of a ballot initiative.  The details can be worked out if and when it passes. The stadium tax passed and they still haven't worked out the details.  It clearly isn't a prerequisite.  It sounds like al...

Re: Clay Chastain coming back with light rail

Nice photos!

Yes, KC should've implemented these, but like a lot of things here, KC should've done a lot of things, along time ago!

Re: Clay Chastain coming back with light rail

Way over simplified.  The roads have to be taken out, not just closed.  And do you know of an architect who would design a toothpick bridge let alone a contractor who would build it? Face it.  Chastain's LRT proposal is a stinker.  When you vote take the time to read it in it's entirety I completel...

Re: Clay Chastain coming back with light rail

I will more than likely vote against this initiative.  Now, before everyone jumps on me, I grew up in Denver and know what a well planned out design of transit opportunities will do for a city, however after seeing Chastain on KCPT on Sunday, his plan has a lot of holes in it!  Before seeing it, I t...

can you elaborate?  what would make it a more "efficient freeway?" (i'm not picking a fight -- and certainly not defending modot -- just curious.) No offense taken, but my lawyer is bigger than your lawyer!! :D  8) I apologize for not making my post any clearer! I don't drive that stretch...

Re: Bond Bridge (formerly Paseo)

A design build is actually better as the project gets done in less time, however the designers, consultants, transportation departments, MARC must all be in agreement on the design.  The T-Rex project in Denver was a design build and it is almost completed in 6 years, and that includes new LRT track...

Re: Why do KDOT and MoDOT both suck?

I would have to agree with "enough" about MARC and for the most part agree there is room for improvement with the various DOTs in this region.  However, these DOTs are controlled by the states themselves and the state legislature for the most part funds projects and improvements, other tha...

Re: We are wasting so much time, money and effort on yet another bistate plan...

^ it's not quite that bad.  yes, there would be a sales tax election in each county, but once that's done, service plans would be finalized based on what counties "buy in."  this is to implement the smart moves plan -- a system that's nearly all bus-based -- so it's mostly a matter of buy...

2007? ech. still, this is a big help... thanks for the info! And that's just the legislative effort allowing this change in the law!!  Then Missouri has to go through the various elections for bonds and other revenue generating measures, and then there's the design phase, and then the construction ...

Re: Boulder CO is very Urban

Boulder's median home price is around $440,000.  very Orange County.   still, i'd rather live in a shack in a cool area of Boulder than a McMansion 30 minutes away.  luckily, everyone is satisfied. I thought I would start here on this thread!  I love Boulder and the surrounding cities; hell, ...

Yes, I realize it is all stagnant!

What's wrong with tax increases if it is used for infrastructure enhancements, ie. transit, stadiums (maybe), downtown improvements, etc.?

Re: We are wasting so much time, money and effort on yet another bistate plan...

MARC has some political influence with the state and local governments, but eventually it is up to the elected officials of both states to pass law and allocate funding of transit.  For the most part MARC and any other council of governments around the US are merely consultants!

Re: Roeland Park balks at cooperating on 47th and Mission project

I am not too familiar with this project, but it seems this thread is moving along towards something I was just thinking about this morning. I noticed that the Spa Heaven in Merriam was on fire and that fire departments from OP, Merriam, Shawnee, Lenexa, and JoCo were all there.  It seems that every ...

Re: Making Urban KC Bike Friendly

The recent edition of Bicycling magazine rated the top "bike-friendly" areas, and yes, KC was not on that list.

Boulder, Colorado
Denver, Colorado
Seattle, WA

Just to name a few!  Of course, if you have seen my other posts, I am biased towards these first two cities! :) :D

Re: The inevitable bike-not-so-friendly incident

Well, after thousands of miles of riding on the streets, highways and trails of Kansas City, I've logged my first real collision with a car today.  I've had close calls, bail outs, and near misses, but this was the first time I've actually smacked right into somebody. It happened at NW Hampton Road...

Overland Park Traffic Signals

I am not sure if this has been posted here before and this may be more of a vent than anything, but here it goes! What is up with the design of the placement of the traffic signals in Overland Park? 1.  Some intersections have 4 poles on each corner with the signal stretched out across the road 2.  ...

I could be wrong, but it seems like the possibility of this person joining the ranks of the urban throng would be pretty remote. Sadly, they do have these people in Denver, and in Chicago, and in New York, even. They live in those places' equivalent of Lee's Summit. I completely agree with you ther...
