Re: My home on 11th & Grand

Things I hate... 1. People begging for bus money almost every time I leave my building, although now they're starting to recognize me. Bus money my arse, you know they're just going to spend it on whatever addiction which resulted in their need to beg.  I cringe anytime I see someone give mone...

Re: Home siding patch-up / installation

There's a bulletin board at work I sometimes look to for these sorts of referrals.  I like it since it's not open to any old jake-legged, self-promoting member of the general public.  Anyway, "siding damaged by woodpecker" came up and this was a recommendation.  Unfortunately I can't ...

Here's a 50 light-year panorama of the Carina Nebula, recently released in observance of the Hubble telescope's 17th anniversary: http://imgsrc.hubblesite.org/hu/db/2007/16/images/a/formats/xlarge_web.jpg The Carina Nebula is home to Eta Carinae, an uber-massive and highly unstable star which occupi...

Re: Why Commercial Construction Costs More

That's great -- but commercial properties can be poorly built, too. Examples include the Amoco building in Chicago, which had to have its entire facade replaced, and that office building on the north side of the loop here. There's a thread someplace about it. Definitely agree, that's why I put the ...

Re: Why Commercial Construction Costs More

In my mind this is (generally) another benefit to living in a loft--you're moving into a commercial structure which was originally built to withstand a much higher level of use and abuse than a stick-built tract home.  Who wants a 30 year mortgage on a 'twenty year structure'?

Re: Shoal Creek Parkway

"Building roads predevelopment" is almost an understatement.  I recall many years ago when I first moved to Kansas City, that I went on a drive up around the north loop of I-435.  I just wanted to see what was "up there."  I was surprised to discover mile after mile of farmland, with ...

Anyone know if there's an online map of the 45 miles of planned parkways?

Re: What Part of Downtown Is This?

In the upper left portion of the picture I can see the Kansas City Board of Trade (Second) building, which was at 8th & Wyandotte.  This picture appears to be facing northwest. Very interesting photo.  A good percentage of the buildings in the upper left quadrant are now gone, and replaced...
