Re: KCMO Public Works... Works

YAY- Kudos to KCMO Public Works and SUPER KUDOS TO YOU See, what you did is a perfect example of what makes urban neighborhoods work.  Elderly woman, maybe did or did NOT know that she could do this.  You knew AND you acted, making the neighborhood a better place and helping her stay connected with ...

Wait -  WHAT???   The mayor wasn't at the ribbon cutting?  Wouldn't they need him??  Didn't they cut, like eight ribbons, with VIP's at each?

I appreciate Funk's regular guy thing, but I mean, really.  I find that shabby.

Re: Nelson-Atkins Expansion (YES..white glass is the end result)

Quick off topic about Blunt -  WTF!!!!  Maybe he just didn't understand what this opening means, culturally and CIVICALLY.  If he went to the June 2, $500 per ticket event and not the ribbon cutting, open to Joe Public I would be seriously irritated.  Anyone know? On topic, esp. to scooterj - I unde...

Sorry to be a nag, but could we keep this on topic?  Talk about the N-A, the Bloch Building and your thoughts.

On flickr.com there are pictures being loaded as I type.  The media preview day was today - general media I think since many critics have already filed the reviews.

TIME Magazine's review. http://www.time.com/time/magazine/article/0,9171,1627029,00.html Addresses the "featurelessness" of the walls in the day, but then writes this - ". . .to keep the eye occupied, Holl plays with the forms and arrangement of the five lenses, bending and dipping th...

Lovely, lovely photographs -

Question.  Do the lights come on slowly?  Or  - Boom - they're on.  It looks like initially they are not all on.

oooohhh!  Do it!  I took the ViaRail "Canadian" from Toronto to Vancouver and we stopped in Jasper.  BEAUTIFUL.  I mean, yes it is like US Rockies, but different.  The lakes are stunning.  GO GO GO

JDluu is correct.  The city had NO hand in funding or designing the addition.  No city involvement beyond usual (permitting, city infrastructure, etc.).

The Washington Post weighs in - http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/05/18/AR2007051800358.html Another thumbs-up.  Not surprised by the review.  I liked the description of some of the design and construction.  Especially liked this line - "We live in a world in which ther...

Re: Nelson-Atkins Expansion (YES..white glass is the end result)

Wow that video is something, from the standpoint of what must be tremedous amounts of natural light.  I am fascinated by how they will be able to bring that much light into galleries containing very light sensitive art.  The Metropolis article discussed the issue, but seeing the Photography gallerie...

Man, I am jealous.  What were the African and Photo galleries like?  Are they as successful as the Modern and Contemporary galleries appear to be?  I saw some photo's of the African galleries under construction, but curious how it ended up.

Any photos?

^^ I know where you are. Won't say where.  Le someone else guess.  I hope you offer congratulations to where you are.  Wish the city luck in 2009 (hint). LOL regarding the Empire Builder.  I took it once, enjoyable but later took  The Canadian,ViaRail's train from Toronto to Vancouver.  MUCH nicer. ...

Re: Nelson-Atkins Expansion (YES..white glass is the end result)

^^^^ Yeah that had me scratching my head.  As an aside, the online version of the chart did have the museum size correct.  I was kinda bummed with the N-A because I don't understand how the museum's press department didn't get some kind of mention.  I know that it is ultimately up to the NYT writers...

Re: Nelson-Atkins Expansion (YES..white glass is the end result)

^^^^^^  I wouldn't be surprised if TIME reviews the addition later.  I am kind of surprised the METROPOLIS review is already out.  Happy, but surprised.  Get ready for lots and lots of reviews.  I imagine some will be negative, at least partially. But I am willing to bet that anyone who has walked a...
