Re: Downtown rental crunch
I was pretty shocked when I visited some friends in Chicago how cheap their rent was in comparison to other places such as NYC and San Fran. They were paying between 800 and 1200 for studios and one bedrooms. I guess the number of options drives those prices down, though it doesn't seem like there...

Re: Downtown rental crunch
I would guess people are more worried that the place isn't a complete dump/location than they are about size or square footage. Isn't this square footage envy thing more for people who are buying? It's not like single people expect to find two bedroom places under $1000 downtown.

Re: Downtown rental crunch
Diversity includes people under 50 too, doesn't it AKP? That was the point...few can find a place to live downtown unless they make nothing or are living on their nest egg. I understand land and thus rental rates are higher downtown, so it's not possible for everybody to find a place downtown, but...

Re: GO ROYALS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Gobble has now allowed 11 earned runs in 16 innings. That is pretty terrible. I almost have to change the channel every time he is pitching. His 6.2 ERA is the second worst on the team to Tomko who elevated his as a starter and looked great tonight in relief. Jimmy has also allowed 8 of 17 inher...

Re: Downtown rental crunch
I would think that every growing city wants to encourage young, creative, and educated people to come live in their core. How many people make sub 30k out of college? I would guess it isn't a lot, and while affordable housing at that level is definitely deserved and needed, a key demographic for r...

And Glass cannot profit from the sale of the team. He can recover his investment but any profit goes to charity. I gotta call wolf tickets there. What entity would hold him to that promise? As a Walmart exec, there is no end to the litigation he would be able to use to circumvent that clause. M...

...but he didn't say it was because of his lack of interest but rather that a majority of citizens didn't want a downtown stadium, so he would go with them.

Re: Why a Downtown Stadium Didn't Get Off The Ground
David Glass would have jumped all over investing $100 million into a downtown stadium if he wasn't worried about losing parking revenue, because I think he could make the investment back in 3-5 years (his investment in the Royals has been ridiculously lucrative). We are complete suckers for spendin...

I'm 99% sure there is no liquor in the display bottles at the Cashew. The Cashew was out of one of those display bottles once, and they explained the display thing. I've also seen this before in other bars. As an example, the Little Rock Airport bar inside security also does this, as described ab...

Re: Why a Downtown Stadium Didn't Get Off The Ground
The Sasaki plan had four proposed locations. 1. North Loop, just West of Main 2. PAC location 3. Just East of the current PAC location (between Main and Wyandotte, South of Truman) 4. Oak St. and 19th Two of these are no longer possible (if anything really is now). The North loop location woul...

If price is no option, the American Restaurant will dominate every time. You can't really go wrong with anything they serve, but they'll get you a great cut of meat for sure.Cyclops wrote: The best steak I've ever had was at the Plaza III.

Re: I can't wait for the new smoking ban in Kansas City!
I doubt it... once anyone on the fence experiences smoke-free bars, they forget why they were ever against a ban. Most of my friends who come home from smoke-free cities during Thanksgiving and Christmas can't stand to go out here.

Re: M.I.A. in Lawrence
Did anyone go to M.I.A.? I ended up at Wilco, which was a great show with about a 9 song encore as they are wont to do, but I still kinda wish I'd gone to Liberty Hall. The neon strolling up and down Mass was amazing. I also stayed for Margot and the Nuclear So & So's, which was sadly just so...

Re: M.I.A. in Lawrence
Anyone going to M.I.A. tonight? I wanted to go, but my friends wanted to see Wilco instead, which is a nice backup plan. My friend in Chicago said her concert was amazing and told me I was stupid for not going. There was also a show at the Jackpot that may have been decent, but I don't know much a...

I'm on the road about 50% of the time for work and am forced to eat at chains frequently (as co-workers and everyone must agree on the place). After eating at Chili's, Applebee's, Longhorn, Outback, Carraba's, Friday's, etc, you eventually realize they mostly offer the rearranged versions of the sa...

Re: KC Penguins? (Kansas City Star)
What I’m saying is that even though the Royals attendance is bad, it may not be as bad as it looks, there are many factors that have created that other than just purely KC doesn’t support sports. From what I have heard, the Royals have very healthy radio and tv numbers for this market size and for...

As for the MO point, irrelevant. If that meant anything, the DEMS would win in November by a 2-1 margin. I'll bet you $10 on the spot, they lose MO straight up in the General. Wouldn't shock me... many white people are still afraid that Obama is either a fanatical, America-hating, wacko Christian...

We'll see if another war or terrorist threat pops up between now and then to boost their numbers. I don't think the people will be as easily scared into submission this time.
