Re: Eyesores & Architectural Blunders (ongoing thread)
Parkchester, Stuyvesant Town, and Peter Cooper Village were built and owned for many years by Metropolitan Life Insurance Company as middle class affordable housing. For most of their history, they were rent-controlled so they remained moderately-priced. I don't know if they remain rent-controlled...

Re: Eyesores & Architectural Blunders (ongoing thread)
It's amazing how some large-scale housing projects like this fail and others don't. There are others that haven't like Stuyvesant Town, Peter Cooper Village, and Parkchester in NYC. Stuyvesant Town is one of the more desirable large housing projects in NYC. It has a waiting list as does Cooper Vi...

The remaining townhouse was part of a row along 6th Street clear to the corner. I'm just showing the context in how that remaining townhouse was part of the block at one time.

Re: Downtown to remain "Totally Nude"... for now
KMBC Channel 9 New reported this evening that Temptations Totally Nude request to expand was up before the City Council today. The request includes converting the club from a juice bar to one selling liquor. Word of approval, or not, will come later.

Re: Wanted : Old River Market Photos
Fang, I have searched the library archives for years, and you repeatedly come up with material I have never seen before. Thanks, so much. Loftguy, they are constantly adding new photos to the database, so things that never came up before often will if you keep visiting. The Granite Building , for...

Re: Grand Slam C-Store
Yeah, I've gotten that response from them as well. They are not very pro-active and I think they have little funding to work with. However, they might be able to direct DNA in how to approach the situation. I would think the Landmarks Commission would also be able to direct you to building researche...

Re: Grand Slam C-Store
Staubio, I would contact the Historic Kansas City Foundation and get their advice about how to proceed getting the designation--since they do this sort of thing all the time. They will probably advise DNA to hire a historic building survey researcher to gather information about the building. http:/...

Re: Wanted : Old River Market Photos
The library database I'm pulling from only has photos up to around the 1950s. A few from the 1990s. I wish someone would donate a photo collection that has photos from the 1960s, 70s, and 80s. I also wish someone would donate more recent color photos taken since 1990. Those of you who take lots of...

Re: Election 2008
I think Hillary's strategy at this point is to keep running so that Obama is forced to select her as Vice President. It's very unlikely that she will catch up in the delegate count, or even popular vote, and she is losing superdelegates daily. However, she still has enough strength to be the likely...

Somewhere on this forum is mention of the KC Bungalows group. Surely, some of the members would probably be able to recommend someone.
