Re: Election 2008
He said that Republicans want to "gamble your retirement savings". What he was talking about was the idea that MY money should be put into a seperate account that I can invest however I see fit. Instead of making 3% or less like the government is, I could put it in a mutual fund that wo...

Re: OFFICIAL: Proposed KCK Casino
They are just pointing out additional synergies and benefits that would come from their proposal - smart marketing. You don't see the other parties out there touting such benefits. I would question the feasibility of the three other proposals promising to bring a second NASCAR race to the Kansas S...

All these things being offered by the Speedway aren't even for official consideration - they're just the Speedway's reminder to the public that they're there:

And practically speaking, of course science is self-correcting, and that is one of its virtues for sure, but also something that makes it somewhat suspect as a single guiding principle by which to make decisions about one's life. Of course you've got to consider the current science, but to exclude...

OK, but what happened before then? (sorry- I always think about those things too, then I get a headache and go to sleep. OPIchabod, I want some of what you're smoking, because I don't understand your point: "For God to exist, Time cannot exist." It seems like there could be a lot of reasons for a God to have Time. Using your logic, there's no reason for the universe to exist, which is to say, it seems lik...

Ok, so I've been smoking some good shit recently, though I've grappled with this concept for a number of years: The relationship between God and time. For God to exist, Time cannot exist: There's no rational explaination for the purpose of Time if God does indeed exist. A God would have no purpose f...

And that is where faith comes in. However, as I have said before and will say again, true Christianity (as opposed to the Christianism of the religious right) is different from most other religions in that the founding is not based on gaining power, money or anything else, it was a religion that e...

Re: Religion...
A couple of people have touched on these concepts, but I've adopted the following thoughts on religion: 1) I deliniate between religion and spirituality. I consider myself a very spiritual person, but I don't need religion to be spiritual. 2) Religion, however, does serve a purpose: "Let religi...

I wasn't trying to belittle your post - I was actually trying to make a point that trying to end our dependence on foreign oil is a fruitless pursuit.
We need to end our dependence on oil period.

Re: Is America's suburban dream collapsing into a nightmare?
There might be an occasional spike due to political reasons but I think that whatever party wins in Nov. steps will be taken to take us away from our dependence of oil for security reasons. I don't think that's entirely accurate. Both parties plan to take us away from our dependence on foreign oil....

Re: The elusive media center pc - not here yet apparently
This sounds similar to what I've always wanted to do: Instead of having three or four family members who each have iTunes songs on their laptops, I want to be able to consolidate that into a giant central database (including digital-file movies) that would then be accessible (either wirelessly or ha...

Re: OFFICIAL: Proposed KCK Casino
I have no idea what this line of discussion has to do with KCK's Wyandotte County's casino, but Brownback is going to face a formidable competitor in the 2010 GOP primary for Governor from current Secretary of State Ron Thornberg. They'll beat each other up and Mark Parkinson will succeed Sebelius (...

So yesterday, Obama released his plan to help drive down gas prices: http://www.cnn.com/2008/POLITICS/08/04/campaign.wrap/index.html In a nut shell, Obama wants to sell oil from our stockpiles and get oil companies to drill for more oil in various places. I know something about bad ideas, and these ...

Re: The Russian Dude who Chronicled Gulags Has Died, Tosspot is pissed I am sure
It would make perfect sense that Reagan would therefore observe the new leadership, and acknowledge change. Nearly 20 years after Russia expressed an interest in "democratic" values, I question how much they've really changed. I don't doubt Reagan's sincerity in his efforts, but they clea...

Re: Cheesecake Factory = $1.50 per slice today only!
When you go to the Cheesecake Factory on 119th street, do you walk there? Bus and walk? Maybe at least park in a garage a couple blocks away and walk there? Or do you just pull in and park you car in the stall outside the door? I guess I was trying to make a joke (which I apparently failed at...

Re: Cheesecake Factory = $1.50 per slice today only!
Anyone else find this topic ironic given the discourse on a similar topic in this section: Suburbs making people fat.
I guess my question would be: if I go to the Cheesecake Factory on the Plaza, I'm less likely to get fat than if I go to the Cheesecake Factory out on 119th Street?

Re: Retail mutation, rising gas prices, etc.
But coupled with a rapid shift away from gas-guzzling vehicles, it also means people are paying less in federal fuel taxes, which go largely to help finance highway and mass-transit systems. As a result, many such projects may have to be pared down or eliminated Another reason to raise the gas tax ...

Re: Retail mutation, rising gas prices, etc.
I've only had time to read through the first few reports, but I do have a couple of observations so far (and apologies if these issues are addressed in later reports): - One of the reports states that, "It is now possible that high gas prices will help to solve some of our most egregious social...
