Re: Wizards Stadium at Bannister Mall

The short answer is that black people live there and white people watch the news.

Re: Official: KCMO Light Rail

I also find it ironic that the same council that has underfunded the ATA and allowed it to mired itself in ineffectual and wasteful service for decades now cries foul.  The hubris of these people amazes me.  To choose now to grandstand for bus transit strikes me as hypocritical and preposterous.  I ...

Re: OFFICIAL: Power & Light District

I think NKC is the most slept on urban area in the metro.  I am sometimes shocked that its not hot spot for urban-minded people with school aged kids.  If the city ever lifted its residency requirement, NKC would certainly be on my short list.

Re: GSA considers big office complex downtown

GSA is set on a facility that is LEED platinum certified
This is excellent.  KC needs to put some weight behind its green build promises.

row houses

As we all know, KC doesn't have much in the way of rowhouses, and never did.  The few old-school rows that I know of are long gone, with the exception of the one block south of midtown marketplace.  How many new developments do we have going on with rowhousing?  Which ones are the highest quality ae...

Re: Jan 9, 2007 Tenant Announcement

I've never had the Spaghetti Factory, but I've eaten a lot at most of the venerable Dago Hill joints, and I think they are incredibley overated.  I feel the same way about Gates and Bryants.  I think the only real reason to eat at most (not all) of the historic restaurants in on Dago Hill in STL or ...

Re: Off beaten path dive bars

I think the Night Ranger column is a good idea.  We need a good bar review, and I enjoyed the first three or four columns.  They were a little snarky, but for the most part I thought they were valid.  But I have been unable to read this column for some time.  I don't know why, but Jen Chen's writing...

Re: KC's Next Exciting Neighborhood

My wife and I were talking a few days ago about the 39th west signs.  And cheesy or not, good branding and good signage do go a long way.  I have always loved those neighborhood flags that hang from street lamps (exception: pseudo flags for historically "ethnic" neighborhoods), and I think...

Yes, but Houston is huge.  Its market has got to be 4 or 5 times KC's (wild ass guess).

Re: KC's Next Exciting Neighborhood

Jesus, can you imagine if they would have built a ballpark on 18th just east of 71, where the ata and all that shit is right now?  It seems to me its going to take a pretty big 'keystone' development to connect 18th and vine to the east crossroads.  Once you pass under 71 there is a a long stretch o...

Re: Why do people give a damn about their college?

I think participation is the key difference to me.  Pride in something you take part in (like and educational environment or a geographic locale, for example)  is a far cry from basing any portion of one's sense of self on the atheletic "representatives" of that institution.
