Re: GO ROYALS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The Royals are the first team to win 7+ in a row with a sub-.300 winning percentage at least 100 games into a season since the 23-78 Cardinals won nine straight in 1907. I’m not about to weigh seven games more heavily than the 104 games that came before them but it’s been a fun week at least.

Re: Kansas City will likely suffer 'off the charts' heat in the next 30 years, new study predicts
I don't think Highlander is off base here. Just speaking anecdotally, I have run into denialists who swear that "scientists" predicted that by the 2020s sea levels would have already risen by several feet, and now it's the 2020s and the sea has not (permanently) taken Wall Street or Miami ...

Re: Downtown Baseball Stadium
I don’t want the stadium at all, quit giving tax money to loosing sports teams. I'm curious about comments like this. If it was proven to you that money spent on stadiums can generate more money than spent, would you still disagree with it? Is it an ideological point of view or do you feel a bad fi...

Re: GO ROYALS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
By 2011 we had brought up Perez, Hosmer, Escobar, Moustakas, Gordon, Dyson, and Lorenzo Cain. We lost 91 games that year and three years later were in the World Series. Not saying these guys are going to take us to the World Series. But this season is very reminiscent of 2011. Our pitching wasn't r...

Re: GO ROYALS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
No results on the field so far. Those are the facts. Does it matter if they lose 99 or 120, not really? But I do think they are on the right track, even though it's so dark right now we can't see the tracks. But there are results on the field, and they're very bad results. In the grand scheme of tu...

Re: GO ROYALS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
They were learning a lot last year and were supposed to be much better this year, but instead, they're on pace to smash the franchise single season loss record, and if they stumble a little bit more, the AL and MLB records aren't out of the question. Have to admit that I don't follow the farm system...

Re: Downtown Baseball Stadium
I mean GMDM hired the scouting department and made the draft picks that stocked the farm system, so the only part that isn't 100% on him is whatever has been done since he left. But it's not only scouting, it's also player development. We routinely watch guys bust here and then go on to become produ...

Re: Downtown Baseball Stadium
That's not entirely unfair but not the same thing as saying that KC is only "ok on attendance" even for a good team. But I think the (limited) evidence more strongly supports the argument that KC will turn out for a good team than that we can't fill a stadium either way. Another (flawed) c...

Re: Rail to KCI - 2023
surely station names could be worth something too, seems some other systems have sold station naming rights for millions. "Walmart Zona Rosa Station", Target @ Metro North Station, Coca Cola Station @ KCI terminal, etc. I'd guess those could bring in millions per year. Station naming righ...

Re: Downtown Baseball Stadium
In 2016, coming off a WS win, the Royals were middle of the pack in attendance in the MLB. In 2016, they were 12th in attendance and 16th in overall record. Everything people have ever told me or that I have seen was that even in the best years we were ok on attendance. I really do think it’s a mar...

Re: Rail to KCI - 2023
I mean my original post was about how if you want to get people riding transit of any mode, you can't just provide transit but also need to make it more difficult and expensive to drive, but you just zeroed in on the word "bus." I'm also not even talking specifically about transportation t...

Re: Rail to KCI - 2023
"Excitement" is not going to fill a train with thousands of riders on a daily basis to justify the ten-figure cost of building it, particularly not when driving is as cheap and easy as it is in KC. This is wishful thinking. It is especially not going to fill a train in a place like the Nor...

Re: Rail to KCI - 2023
The bus doesn't "spur" dense, walkable development, but it enables it, if there is otherwise political will to build it. A train through already-developed, intensely car-dependent suburban sprawl is not going to magically generate density either unless there is political will for it. The m...

Re: Rail to KCI - 2023
Suburbs will never densify or be built densely unless we give them transit to grow around first I agree with this in principle, but I don't think that dropping 15+ miles of rail through the Northland is necessarily step 1 here. A good transit system is definitely a necessary prerequisite to a dense...
