Re: Birmingham Road in Liberty

And why is seven hills road as long as it is without connecting? Seven Hills Road is now just a few hundred yards long. Google shows it going almost to Birmingham Rd, but it stops at the first (and only) house on the road. I've been pondering the semantic value of the "Road Closed Temporary" sign a...

Re: KCMO Downtown Streetcar

The suburbs will only vote for a light rail plan when they feel they are being left behind and the urban core is taking over as the place to live, work and entertain in the city. Right now, a citywide/countywide vote, in the eyes of most people, looks like the city begging for funds to build a pipe...

Re: KCMO Downtown Streetcar

For kicks, has anyone asked Yael or TMC to outline a plan (route, type of vehicle, funding mechanism) that they would endorse and would also win a city-wide election? I really want to know what this unicorn looks like. they supported the last city light rail plan fully. the problem was it wasn't bi...

Re: KCMO Downtown Streetcar

Anyone else think it's about time to lay off the Star and Yael on Twitter? Lest we generate actual opposition... We must remind ourselves that this is a ground game--the Star is no good at that. No. the media has a fundamental responsibility to tell the truth about a situation. they're telling half...

Re: KCMO Downtown Streetcar

From the Star editorial: The funding would come from a taxing base that’s far too small. (downtown) Downtown is the only place where development is dense enough — meaning the tax base is deep enough — to produce enough revenue to support a streetcar system.y The editorial board needs to take a writi...

Re: KC Star paywall goes into effect in December

I've always thought the Star could right itself by focusing almost entirely on local and regional reporting. Throw in some national AP headlines just to make sure--but every article coming out of the newsroom ought to be about KC or the region. There are so many stories of interest I'd love to see ...

Re: KC Star paywall goes into effect in December

the star has a problem with going paywall. 1. all the tv networks offering the same news. the star even piggybacks on kctv for much of their news 2. papers have traditionally been advertiser driven and they already have among the most shady ads on the internet. what happens to their ad rates online ...

I see. I live a couple of houses down from a professional photographer who has a studio in her basement. She's pretty excited about having a high-speed connection to transfer large files to clients, but the space is definitely also her house. I guess that's the difference. I see you're not understa...

Will Google Fiber Convulse Local Telecom Markets? This article made me wonder if once Google dominates through infastructure, operating as a broadcast network, and mining user data for advertisers, will the federal government at some point see it as a monopoly and force it to divest itself of some ...

there's a bit of a problem with your list, they're only selling 30 schools/pieces of property. your list has 38. it's also missing 9 schools they're selling so it's that much more off. So your list has 17 properties not being sold. McCoy Elementary School Meservey Dunbar Swinney Elementary School Ch...

a lot of people forget that a huge amount of everything they mention as our economy, food, coal, manufacturing supplies all goes through the midwest.

KC is the 2nd largest rail center in the country by most definitions.
and it will only grow after Chicago cuts out the congestion in their rail network

The SKC trench goes right past the sprint campus and back up to downtown, where the two major cross country fiber backbones intercept. Plenty of easy to access dark fiber in that trench. And seriously, don't you think SPRINT would have a major bandwidth allocation at their WORLD HEADQUARTERS? even ...

I've always thought incentives should be much more specific based on proven plans and specific locations. not just have a TIF fund for a developer to use at a location of their choice, if you want to develop *here* we have this package that's better than developing *there* kind of thing. like have a...

I don't see them moving more than a division of the company here if anything. But it won't be in OP for a simple reason. Google will want to hook up to their own network. It would be a horrible PR move for them to need to pay someone else for internet in a region they provide internet service. think...
