Re: KCMO Downtown Streetcar

This whole process has been a real Civics 101 lesson for me. I was prepared for a few people to be opposed to the project, and I think there are legitimate opinions in opposition. What has surprised me (and perhaps displays my naivete more than anything) is the level of attention given to those who...

Re: City looking at selling naming rights

No, people won't know what Oracle does, but at the least the name has some general vagueness to it. Better than calling something KPMG Stadium oh, and ?:Oracle as golf:CPA firm I'd fill in online gaming or social drinking. both work from my experience. Everyone posting needs to watch at least the be...

Re: Kansas suburbs battle each other for companies

Of course there are the cases where one area of KCMO competes with another area. Such as: Giving incentives for a new Walmart at the old Blue Ridge Mall site and having Walmart shut down its Bannister Walmart. Giving incentives to H&R Block to move from a midtown/Plaza location to downtown. the fir...

Re: KCMO Downtown Streetcar

Sue got to the point she started to lie everywhere. In my capacity as a citizen of KC I started letting news reporters that quoted her know that I found her to be untrustworthy and gave my brief evidence. They like feedback to know if their pieces are seen as fair or not and pick who they quote base...

Westbrook Village

73rd and Quivira.

it's over half empty, every anchor is gone.

that's 10 miles from the closest corner of the downtown loop.

this is what happens to suburbs from uncontrolled sprawl. Shawnee is now like Raytown

Re: KCMO Downtown Streetcar

is there going to be a landscaping plan with the project? there's some segments of the route which have non-existent landscaping, such as north 3rd and Grand, around Union Station, at Truman Road, through the crossroads. trees are a simple way to make the stops inviting, they serve as wind and sun b...

Re: On-going downtown development projects

chaglang wrote:^This is screaming for an infographic.
two things are needed to do this right

1. the cost to the govt for both KC and OP for a project today (govt financing, utility cost, etc)
2. the actual square footage of the land each KC project sits on

then it can become an infographic that means something.

Re: Status and future of the River Market area??

reconnecting walnut is a better idea than rebuilding main, widening delaware and other possibilities. those should come after more density to pay for these projects. Main is an especially bad idea, everyone still has to move laterally E-W to get across I-70. so rebuilding it does not save time or ad...

Re: On-going downtown development projects

just the ones with numbers there's ~2625 units in the two lists for ones with actual numbers I picked a random what looks like a 4x4 block area on the edge of the city at 155th and Antioch to see the land it would take if that was done as houses in overland park. it had 412 homes and it was relative...

The single biggest available in NKC is right on the potential route at 15th and Swift. Ju...

Re: Phase 2 streetcar to North Kansas City

http://trimet.org/pm/construction/bridge.htm http://trimet.org/v3/images/pm/bridge.jpg that's a good example, you can clearly see the high level of clearance over the water and smooth slope for the vehicle grade requirements if you go and look at a map of the area you'll see about a 2-3 block appro...

I'd call Wyandotte the separator for this discussion those two pieces of land in the image are the most notable but I'll add another that would be a difficult spot but doable for a residential redo with a large footprint look at 4th St west of Broadway Reroute the power poles further towards the riv...

good point on twitter from NPSG MAX tour

"wind and rain blow from different directions"

none of the example stations designs so far account for this simple idea.

NPSG MAX tour

posts Nena S. Bhatt on twitter posts before they become hard to find. Kansas City MAX - very cool new bus system: bus only lanes, signal prioritization, gorgeous stations designed as landmarks. MAX - high quality stations seem to be triggering TOD, very careful branding. People now asking for rail o...

Re: Phase 2 streetcar to North Kansas City

again, look at a map before you make stuff up ... This is really a very silly argument. You seem to have a very dismal view of the capabilities of civil engineers and seem entirely unfamiliar with the concept of grading. That said, I think you are the one who needs to look at a map. Delaware and Ma...

onto the rest of the segment. this has two items of note for routing I would like to see it take swift to armour for sure far less traffic and there's a lot more retail/commercial along the route. it gets closer to more jobs too then north of armour it goes by a ton of home density. there's also a g...

Re: Phase 2 streetcar to North Kansas City

neither of these ideas really work, they fail because they don't think in 3D ... The elevations for a bridge extending Delaware, starting from about Second Street, and ending on the other side of Harlem Road, would be basically the same as those of the Broadway Bridge. It's absolutely possible to b...
