Re: "Land bank" proposed for derelict properties in KC

I had this idea awhile back about taking the old smelter sheds at the former Armco steel plant at Winchester and Independence, and revamp them to build prefabricated homes that could be trucked to many of these vacant lots. The houses would be brought in pieces and assembled, and they would be desi...

Re: downtown loop rebuild

I haven't thought much about how you handle 169, but 9 already dumps into the city. I imagine Broadway could handle the traffic as it already does so, and cars might actually move a bit faster without all the convoluted access roads and terribly designed ramps. 9 also dumps cars onto the interstate...

Re: Convention hotel proposal for P&L building (and surround

I don't agree with Dave Helling. I think KC would do fine hosting a convention. Get some streetcars and a convention hotel done though. (The new KC convention hotel should be at least 1400 rooms though, I don't get why KC is stuck on a 1000 room hotel when rooms are so lacking near the convention c...

Re: Amenities missing from downtown

Even freaking OKC is building quite an impressive urban core bike trail system, plus they are developing quite an impressive kayaking community and infrastructure (which I know is not really possible in KC). Why not? We have 2 big beautiful rivers and a lot of smaller kayakable ones nearby. it's no...

Re: downtown loop rebuild

Move the 35/70 interchange into the far West Bottoms (making it, really, the 35/670 interchange). Eliminate the north loop. Cap the south loop. Eliminate the west loop. Keep the east loop. That's not horrible. But you'd need more width on the south and east side to handle the increased traffic load...

Re: Google picks KCK/KCMO for ultra fast fiber network

I have a really old deal that's no longer available with Time Warner. For me it will be a 30x increase for a $10/month increase. Without my special plan it would be a 30x increase for a $20/month decrease. I have a hunch that phone service is the real profit source but that someone paying for a 30mb...

downtown loop rebuild

Downtown KC has been in need for a better highway layout forever without adding new lanes. what it needs are better lane layouts. there isn't a single segment of highway that maintains lane position and the number of lanes anywhere in the loop. there's too many major weaving spots on it. So how do y...

Re: OFFICIAL: The Falls (Bass Pro development)

impressive that you make an effort to specifically visit bass pro shops all across the country. which is unlikely to the point that you're more likely wrongly extrapolating what's at a few stores to be at all 65-70 of them. I take it you didn't bother to read the link posted by lock The two bass pr...

Re: Amenities missing from downtown

it's not the cost of putting in a trail or painting but all the associated work. It is probably the cheapest and least labor-intensive infrastructure improvement imaginable. Add to that the fact that those medians are city owned, totally unused, and would not take away "precious" traffic or parking...

Re: Amenities missing from downtown

re-read what he said. you are right we need more bike trails and lanes like are shown in the pictures and to have better marked connections between the ones we do have but to say there's nothing is false.

Re: Amenities missing from downtown

I still don't understand why every divided boulevard in the city doesn't have a crushed gravel trail down the center of the parkway. Penn Valley should also have a circumferential trail and maybe to big cross hatches, then pick one center city street for a dedicated bike lane (Broadway or SW TRWY) ...

Re: Amenities missing from downtown

It is very perplexing that we don't have ANY bike lanes in our urban core. Completely wrong. Pennsylvania between 12th and 14th has the signs and worn paint for a marked bike lane. (not that it's in a good spot) There's also this that's not marked on the street but there are signs with bikes on the...

Re: We need a new airport!!!

What KC needs to do is become a smaller city hub. Instead of trying to be another Chicago or Denver there's got to be a market for being the city that connects Fargo, Fort Smith, Lexington, Madison, Casper, Colorado Springs and such together without going through a major market. A smaller 4-row airp...

Has anyone else noticed the KCATA still owns the entire Trolly Track trail plus a stretch of land from in a line almost to Mill and Westport? that would make trolly track trail not a city park but owned by the bi-state agency (interesting) that would make adding a detour on a Crown Center to Plaza l...
