Re: Generic ongoing KCATA thread

saw a teenager waiting at a 142 stop tonight in the Briarcliff area just before 8pm.

he really stood out given how few people are on the streets this time of night, and there's a bar less than a block away

not a chance.

I have never once been on that road where there was no one else on it.

I've seen less people on 8th St downown during rush hour on a regular basis than on Clever

Re: Plaza move-ins (ongoing)

I thought of a simple reason why we won't see basic supplies on the plaza rent. once sold and gone private the land value of the plaza buildings require high income businesses to support the taxes and it will go private to not be a park and not have a conflict of interest with Highwoods The half of ...

Re: Streetscape improvements and "road diet" for Cleaver Blv

one interesting thing about this project is Clever is a major commuter route from the Plaza to the suburbs.

I wonder how many people will change to using Volker? That street is certainly more of a through street

Google Maps can't do dedicated bike lanes yet. I know this for certain because I added a lot of what you see.

Re: Bike Lanes

it's not even 100% accurate. they have part of Pennslyvania as a marked bike lane go down there and try to find the marked bike lane. the paint is 99% gone. a driver would have problems staying out of it hopefully this is the start of better maintenance of the bike lanes. because if they maintain th...

Re: KCMO Downtown Streetcar

Somewhere I saw a plan to use back in parking.

with 10 minute headways ~90% of the time there won't be a vehicle. making parking spots realistic.
head in or back in, it will be less blocking than Main Street where it's parallel parking

Re: Phase 2 streetcar on Independence Avenue

Perception, perception, perception. It is really not bad. I'm certain that many people, unfamiliar with deep urban, would be shared skitless. I've been throughout all of Missouri. Including all of North St. Louis and most of the east side of KC The place that scared me the most in Missouri was a sm...

Re: KCMO Downtown Streetcar

This is how I phrased it when I proposed it in the Independence Ave thread: What I envision is a scenario not unlike the Loop in Chicago where there's a train going by every few minutes, but maybe not the one you want if you're taking it outside of the loop. Only our "Loop" would be from River Mark...

Re: Phase 2 streetcar on Independence Avenue

no. i'm trying to encourage the neighborhoods to be proactive about what they're willing to accept. that hasn't gotten very far, but it's early. there is no official funding proposal on the table, but i haven't been candy-coating it either. all of my presentations talk about the TDD assessments and...

Re: KCMO Downtown Streetcar

This is just a higher frequency line with an NKC/Indy spur. map it out a line is made up of the set of all stops a vehicle makes. pretty basic this would have no spur off of a line no high frequency segment it would have three regular frequency lines with overlap. if you run the vehicles the same s...

Re: KCMO Downtown Streetcar

Is it just me or are you simply describing double-frequency on the 3rd/Grand to 51st/UMKC line and a second, less frequent line running from 3rd/Grand to either NKC or Indy Ave? No. alternating end points more like StL does but every train follows the common segment of the Y and splits off to the b...

headways. I took an idea from the Independence Ave thread and took it further Imagine down the line we have built out to 51st/Main, north into NKC and down Indepdendence Ave. there's an interesting option for these lines since they all meet at 3rd and grand think of it as a three pointed star with t...

I still think bigger is a better idea (ignoring that they can't get past a vote) but Chastain's latest two plans were just unrealistic.

Re: Plaza move-ins (ongoing)

It still looks cheap, and not well planned. Also the removal of the light fixture cheapens the building. I really hope it's just in storage somewhere hard to say old light fixtures are valuable. then again, repurchasing would cost them money. I bet the best is saved somewhere in a basement. the so ...

Re: KCMO Downtown Streetcar

service vehicle parking. One thing about Main St is there's at least one place that UPS vehicles park in a driving lane on a regular basis. (SB between 9th and 10th) I've seen moving vans blocking lanes of traffic all the time downtown. this obviously won't work with the streetcar. for the segment t...
