Re: Primary Voting Day - KC Issue #1 and #2

Yes on 1 & 2 A definite no on MO constitutional amendment 2. The ballot language makes it sound like you are voting for the ability to pray in school, but you already have that right. Worse, is the detail of the amendment that gives students the ability to refuse instruction if it is "coun...

Re: Why did you move from KCMO to a suburb?

my neighbor is Vietnamese. I don't care about that, I care about the big bus in his backyard, 5 vehicles in the front, weird boards on the window, messy backyard and such.

luckily my home will sell easily based on location alone.

I just checked it depends on the exact line it appears. A couple are 24x7, the rest close for 2-3 hours in the early morning

I believe only the NYC subway has 24x7 service of any train transit network in the US. I saw something about the subject in the past.

Re: KCMO Downtown Streetcar

Gotcha. I hope it's a free service, but I'm sure that proposition would be riddled with negative political implications. assuming it's all or partially pay for they should have some thank you passes to give out to people downtown something like the first X people to visit someplace downtown and is ...

Re: KCMO Downtown Streetcar

And by honor system I mean you'll either purchase from a machine onboard or at the stations. I think. my point is if you put any purchase on the vehicle it slows things down. the purchase needs to be like Minneapolis or StL where it's at the station. even the simple fact of one person rummaging for...

I can see Mission Hills having like 90% signup rates when they go there.

Re: KCMO Downtown Streetcar

In New Orleans they tried for close to a 10 minute headway but it was more like 5-30 minutes. One would see 3 cars in a row followed by a huge gap. The biggest thing that slowed down a vehicle wasn't a car blocking the road but someone paying for a bunch of tickets on the vehicle itself. Hit a touri...

I asked bikeshare via twitter with no reply... Do you think they would have a problem with users locking their helmets to the posts holding up the ads at the end of each station? I want to use a helmet but I really am annoyed carrying it around with me to dinner, drinks, etc. before taking my retur...

that thinking is part of the problem

there are 29 trains tomorrow from London to Edinburgh.
there's 26 on September 12, a wednesday

we have two.

sure, we're not to needing 26 yet, but 2 is sad in comparison.

Re: Why did you move from KCMO to a suburb?

I grew up in Blue Springs, and the reason our family moved to Johnson County when I got a bit older, was my parents were afraid Blue Springs was becoming too populated with "those kind of people" and they didn't mean black people. guess I missed it, but who were your parents referencing? ...

Average person? I don't think I've ever heard a single person in KC say they are against bicycles.

I was under the impression that the B-Cycle implementation was going to coincide with the addition of more bike lanes downtown (if there is even one right now). Maybe I get a different vibe, but I don't feel like lack of progress in this area is due so much to people being against it as it is a maj...

Re: KCMO Downtown Streetcar

Dangerboy.  The 5 minute headway thing is also important.  I saw the Jaime Lerner lecture and he emphasized that short headways are crucial for transit success. Definently. Let's use Amtrak as an example. Lack of regular service is Amtrak's problem. Ridership has grown as on time has got better but...

Re: Which proposed streetcar extension will be completed fir

keep in mind the light rail plan was designed to entice commuters. that will not be the streetcar's primary goal. I wouldn't hold your breath for any northern extension beyond NKC. the focus is on repopulating our empty urban core. modern streetcars can run up to 55 mph, the speed limit on HOA is 4...

Re: Which proposed streetcar extension will be completed fir

UMKC makes the most sense to get the Plaza/tourism connection done first. Probably something out east next. I'm not sure if NKC makes sense if there isn't a plan to eventually expand past there in a third phase. The light rail plan went to Vivion so count on that on phase 3. N Oak is a corridor in ...

Re: Why did you move from KCMO to a suburb?

My ideal would be a KCMO suburb like brookside or maybe those urban homes off oak In the river maeket. The schools kill that idea for me and I bet a lot of people think the same. So I live similar in an old Briarcliff neighborhood with good schools. We have no sidewalks and in some places, no stop s...

Re: Why Can't the West Bottoms Be Redeveloped....?

Pardon the ignorance, but I assume the Crossroads is pretty much developed as far as converting old buildings into apartments/condos? If so, I can really see the West Bottoms taking off. Maybe a park would make it feel more livable too. Condo size, sure But walk through the area near the Kauffman c...
