Re: Ward Parkway Shopping Center in here

It seems like so many businesses fail to take advantage of the only popular something for most of the city and advertise to a wider audience. I keep putting off a grocery trip to the Trader Joes there and maybe this pizza restaurant advertising farther away would have got me to visit both.

Re: Wendys

No Pad Sites so far have been Food places. There's a Dairy Queen visible in Google Street view. Why am I not surprised you like Wendys? It's not my first choice but I can get food for everyone from there which simplifies things greatly. But i have no idea how you came up with that from pointing out...

Re: Uptown Shoppes

Bollocks. The building is sited where it is because it's the most visible and easiest access for cars. Locating the shopping center on the Broadway corner would have made the walk from the neighborhood longer by roughly 90 seconds. If the developers were concerned about the neighborhood at all I su...

Re: KCMO Downtown Streetcar

Go look at the federal courthouse for a permanent bollard. they're not movable since they're designed to stop a vehicle from getting close post-OK City bombing there's plenty of places actual bump outs makes sense but not everywhere. I can find places across the city where adding bike parking would ...

Anyone know what's going on in front of the NAIA building that apparently requires 2/3 of Grand to be blocked off?

Re: Uptown Shoppes

Midtown main drags used to be very pedestrian friendly (even though single family homes) and can somewhat easily be restored if the attitude and direction is established with developers. Yes, cars should be 3rd class citizens. I'm not talking about no parking in this spot. I'm talking about the sur...

Re: KCMO Downtown Streetcar

I'm still holding out hope that some day the zones that are blocked off along the Main streetcar line with plastic barriers will be replaced with concrete curbs & planting beds. Those plastic barriers are ugly (and will look more tired with age). If those spaces truly are no-go-zones then lets make...

Nice to have them off the sidewalks where people apparently just kick them over in disgust or something. Can kinda understand the sentiment after almost being mowed down by a scootering couple while walking down the sidewalk along Baltimore the other day. I wholeheartedly approve of eroding relianc...

If I recall, there was a big effort to get them downtown during the Kay Barnes era, but they didn't bite.
To be fair, it wasn't a given downtown wouldn't continue to decline during this era.

Re: KCMO Downtown Streetcar

To their credit, a UPS truck would move quicker than a tow truck could get there. You can’t say the same about a private vehicle. If the vehicles become enough of a problem it blocks garage access and thus the train that’s when to throw a fit. At that point a personal visit or call to someone with V...

Re: KCMO Downtown Streetcar

I see an awful lot of other illegal stuff happen every day, too. If only things being illegal actually stopped people from doing them! Gosh, what a world that would be. I kind of wonder if it's cheaper to pour concrete and completely block parking vs the cost to drill a hole, buy a sign, place a si...

Code says it's illegal 70-521.b Along a streetcar service line, no person shall stop, park or leave standing any vehicle, whether attended or unattended, occupying space within four feet of the near edge of any streetcar track rail, except where such a vehicle is within a signed and white striped pa...

^There isn't a difference for this location if an L shaped building at the corner the stretches along Broadway. See the draft layout in link above. The hotel needs to be L shaped, stretched along Broadway. An urban designer would not have a surface lot facing Broadway.
An urban designer will account for existing utility access points as reusing an electrical or natural gas drop point will save a lot of money.
