Re: Downtown Buildings with Activity

There has got to be some way to regulate/legislate our way out of this problem. An owner can sit on a property, sure, but allowing it to hopelessly deteriorate into demolition fodder should not be possible without extraordinarily stiff penalties. We have tons of regulation. I would accelerate the p...

Re: The Junction Before and After

Looks like we're all on same page that developing N Loop not around car culture is the way to go. And burying the N Loop with less access is a good way to keep the surface less car focused yet allowing a bypass through downtown when S Loop highly likely will not handle load as KC metro and regional...

Re: The Junction Before and After

There’s also the idea that there’s excess capacity in the whole system to reroute traffic. Why couldn’t there be a large redirect of not downtown to not downtown through traffic N-S to 635? And a simpler system is easier to use. Most I-70 traffic comes from the bad geometry. EB 70 has to trade sides...

Re: Would you like to see the Royals move to a downtown stadium?

why either or? Denver did all and look where it went. Airport, People Mover then Light Rail, Downtown stadiums - all three. thats a commitment to an vibrant urban lifestyle. Sorry, I meant more in the idea of each gives and gets something. The team gets a stadium with pairing and the city gets tran...

Re: The Junction Before and After

Let's say that MoDOT came out today and announced plans for removing the North Loop: Where would the 60,000 cars currently using the North Loop go? re-established Sixth Street? RE-established Indep. Ave? This one line shows a lot about your point and how bad it is. I-70 has been closed into Kansas ...

The comprehensive list of banned items: http://westportkcmo.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/08/comprehensive-list-for-website.pdf This list is incredible. It’s worse than airport security. One that will get them is people they want people to provide proof an animal is a service dog. This is hubris at i...

We will know screening "works but doesn't work" if people just change their time or day of the week

Re: Would you like to see the Royals move to a downtown stadium?

I would trade a stadium for transit system funding.

Roll a streetcar line extension into construction, bus line improvements, commuter rail financial support if it's in the right spot.

Re: Would you like to see the Royals move to a downtown stadium?

You know where there is plenty of room for a stadium? Southeast of 14th and Genessee. This isn't remotely a doable spot. It's on an airport runway approach and the second the FAA has an interest you can expect them to be against it. There's only one practical access point back to the rest of the ci...

Re: The Junction Before and After

That still doesn't explain why that area remains dead to this day. Downtown has changed a lot since the 70s and it seems like such a central location adjacent to the river market, garment district, library district, and financial district would be pretty sought-after by now. That is, unless one of ...

BM did the previous renovation. How'd that go? Did they make big financial sacrifices like your suggesting? No they didn't.
Adjusted for inflation, the 1999 to 2004 renovations cost about 28% of teardown and building new. There's no way they made sacrifices.

Re: We need a new airport!!!

Speaking of $1.5 billion dollars... that IS how much the tallest building in the world, the Burj Khalifa cost to build. Remember, that building was put up in a literal kingdom with an absolute monarch. The president is a member of one of the royal families. The World Cup efforts in Qatar has killed...

Re: The Junction Before and After

I think a lot of the reason the junction area is dead is because so much of it can't even be developed yet because of the overly wide freeway trench. Given in the core of the 1970s freeway era an exit came out with direct access to this area, I don’t see that as holding water. It was a prime car-ce...

Re: KCI Flight Schedule Adjustments

If more airlines run a point to point system like southwest then we will most likely get KC to Little Rock routes but most of the huge airlines don't run that kind of system and I doubt they ever will. If it wasn't for Southwest and its point to point system the number of unique nonstops out of KC ...

Re: KCI Flight Schedule Adjustments

Why does it matter how many locations are within 400 miles of us? There are probably 5 people per day going from KC to Little Rock by plane while there are probably 60-70 a day going to little rock from Chicago, Atlanta and Dallas nonstop (Not including connections). We basically have 4 huge airpor...

Re: KCI Flight Schedule Adjustments

I counted the number of destinations served by each airline that are 400 miles (straight line) from downtown KC with no direct flight by any airline. That's a lot of destinations to require everyone to connect to. There's some overlap but American doesn't serve every city that the other airlines do...
