Re: OFFICIAL - Strata (H&R Block's 2nd Tower)

This downtown streetscape plan references a 1958 plan for the CBD which even then included the Civic Center. So even 60 years ago that takes the CBD into today's convention district http://kcmo.gov/planning/wp-content/uploads/sites/9/2013/07/DTStreetscapeMasterPlan.pdf (file page 11) If you try to d...

Re: OFFICIAL - Strata (H&R Block's 2nd Tower)

The East Village is inside the CBD........ wrong, not technically. while it is inside the downtown loop and the greater "downtown." it is distinct from the "financial district." EV is in the " govt district " of downtown. Central Business District is another name for downtown. The government distri...

Re: OFFICIAL - Strata (H&R Block's 2nd Tower)

Actually build out East Village, then we can talk about a tower. Parking lots for days. Why can't we talk about both? It's not like there's only one developer downtown. Because it would take every developer in town working nonstop my entire lifetime to fill the number of parking lots we have downto...

Re: Westport

In all seriousness though it's sad to have seen Westport start to move in a more "mature", neighborhood centric direction and then boomerang back to frat bars, and double down at that. It's evidence they lost the mature customer market because these customers don't want to deal with going through b...

Re: Bike Lanes

From watching communication, I learned that NKC takes the time to pre-treat and plow it's brand new cycle track in an unfinished development while KC can't keep a bike lane clear on N. Oak which is a priority corridor. (the bus pulls into the bike lane so not clearing it impacts transit riders)

Re: We need a new airport!!!

Sorry, my wording was really poor. I was trying to say that it worries me more that they still only appear to be at 15% design progress. Not that I'm blaming them, I enjoy getting paid for my work too. That just seems like a low number that would need more time to figure out cost overruns, design c...

Re: Plaza move-ins (ongoing)

In response to the claim that tech can replace ornament, I don't see how they can't exist at once. Tech and ornament existed together before. In Union Station, for instance, the chandeliers have exposed bulbs because electricity was a luxury in 1914 and so it was flaunted. You have this backwards. ...

Re: We need a new airport!!!

I see terms like "weak leadership" but it might not be. It might be a strategic long-term decision. Someone always gets something in the end. For all we know the airlines want to cut new terminal costs and get more profit. If it's not Chicago,it lets them push back against every midmarket city by sh...

Re: We need a new airport!!!

They're including the costs of all terminal projects. A single one won't, having every project go way up will.

$100 million across 20 projects is equal to the cost of an entire new terminal.

Re: We need a new airport!!!

Oh no.way its over budget. That's what I'm concerned about. Nobody in the city should be worried about over budget You're probably in the 5% minority. MOST people are concerned about the cost of flying. They don't really care if the airport is flashy or special, they want to get to the airport, get...

Re: We need a new airport!!!

We're also seeing all the price increases up front and thus all the fights are up front. The cost risk method requires it.

I don't expect to see big issues in two years because it went way over budget.

Guessing they just cut more amenities...we don't need a damn roof!
No one will look at the roof anyways. You're supposed to keep your eyes on the road driving and then most people look forward where they're walking to not run into people when inside.
