Re: Wonderful Waldo

This is a family of speculators, not developers--typically. They hold up development, rather than make it happen. They do own some older neighborhood strip centers, like the shops at 38th and SW Tfwy, where Freshwater is located. The father has held onto the 120+ unit Marquette building at Armour a...

That's a shame. It always seemed busy when we were there for breakfast on the weekends.

Re: Academie Lafayette

They've actually sold a few buildings to charter schools, including Lafayette. Not selling one specific building doesn't strike me as an indicator of a level of organizational mismanagement worthy of not supporting pre-K funding.

Re: Academie Lafayette

But... even if they sold SW the proceeds wouldn't fund a district-wide pre-k program for very long. These seem like two separate issues.

Forget suburbanites, it would be great if city council members didn't hold that belief.

Re: Academie Lafayette

There’s something of a difference between a dedicated revenue stream for pre-k and the one-time gain from an asset sale. Everyone gets wound up about Southwest, but the district has sold 20 buildings and only has 5 left on the market. Fewer than that have been demolished. Nothing about that strikes ...

Make sure you support the mill levy increase when the KCMSD asks for money for pre-K, as I understand are planning to.

Re: Restoring Residential Density

We also have to change how we view parking as an unalloyed good. We have to stop viewing the street in front of single family homes as an extension of their property. We have to abolish parking minimums. We have to stop being terrified of buildings that we can’t see over. We have to stop treating re...

I swear there used to be a way to block people so that you didn't even have to see people that reply to them for some unknown masochistic BDSM internet fetish.

Can someone point me in the right way?

Re: Next Mayor 2019

Seems like a percentage of the region’s AMI is a number that makes sense. Maybe that’s the plan already. IIRC 30% of income going toward housing is a recommended max. Reducing the permit time is great but I’m curious to know how he’s going to do that- fewer regs or more staff or both seem to be the ...

No need to tear eachother down over a mayoral race. Give me a hug ya big lug! Can I ask, in all the sincerity that can be offered by an anonymous internet message board, would you give some examples of her voting against what you’re calling pigouts? Giving 17 million for a garage for one. I was hap...

Really my only disappointment of the night is Strassle.
Biggest missed opportunities: Bunch as 4th-at-large (his goal when Jolie was in re-election mode) or Glynn as 4th-at-large (could not be persuaded). Shields would have had a much harder time with either.

I know a few people who have been friendly with her for decades and are having a hard time with her performance this council term. The changes in the city in the last 5-10 years seem to have opened quite a generational divide.

Re: Next Mayor 2019

I was wondering about this too. If she can pull in a chunk of Wagner’s voters she could win Clay comfortably. My sense is that Glynn voters overlapped with hers, and Canaday took votes from her and Lucas. But the Freedom endorsement of Lucas won’t change in this next round. Does anyone expect June t...
