Re: Crown Center to get aquarium

Hmm, the videos work for me in Chrome but I'm on Linux and have high speed connection. Might be best to download the video by right clicking link and doing a 'save as', then play. I'll try to scale down the videos. They were taken from my phone, which does 720p video, so they are large files. Get ti...

Re: Crown Center to get aquarium

A few more vids.. Sharks going over walkthrough tunnel. There is one large tank that has two tunnels and a couple other peek holes around it. They did a pretty good job optimizing different views of the largest tank from various parts of walkthrough. http://dl.dropbox.com/u/1238514/pics/aquarium/201...

Re: KCMO to get Google Fiber too...

If that's a Google Hut, hmm, bigger than ATT U-Verse lawn refrigerators. If they can keep them located just in existing utility areas, not so bad but hopefully they don't need to stick this in every hood.

Can anyone confirm this is indeed a Google Hut? Seems too big for just an access node.

Crown Center Aquarium

Is now open. Yeah, it's small, can take just an hour to get through but overall it doesn't suck. Pretty good design overall. Is well designed for kids as most tanks go to the floor and there are crawl spaces to pop head into the middle of some tanks. If you didn't get your fill, try going back in re...

Re: OFFICIAL: Power & Light District

Urban purists cringe but the reality is parking will always be important in this town (and will continue to be even if streetcar happens) and I don't see them doing a hirise building w/out a massive garage. I'd be OK with the City chipping in for the garage but only if it can also be used for free/c...

So it sounds like they're building 'Google Fiber Huts'. Hopefully this won't be as bad or worse than ATT's Uverse lawn refrigerators. Anyone see one of these huts? Post a pic.

Q: Where exactly have the crews been working?
A: We’re not focused in any one location. We’re working throughout Kansas City, KS and Kansas City, MO!

Google has strung 100 miles of fiber so far. Anyone know which areas?

Re: Netflix HD streaming and Roku player

Netflix was great until this year, unless you like TV shows as they have focused more on TV shows lately. They used to have a huge selection of good indie/altie/foreign movies but are not renewing deals or increasing that type of content. TV shows and bottom of barrel movies appear to be their futur...

Re: Jan 2012 metro employment comparisons over last 10 years

Yeah, relative to 2 years ago they've added a decent amount jobs, but they didn't really have the boom before the bust. Compare to 10 years ago... Pitt overall growth is about same as KC over 10 years. Is surprising how many cities are still below job count 10 years ago. LA, SF are almost as bad off...

Jan 2012 metro employment comparisons over last 10 years

January employment numbers are out, considered the most accurate month by the BLS and it tends to show the most stable non-seasonable jobs. The BLS has two methods to track employment. This is the method reported by employers (not workers), does not include self-employed or farm workers. KC seems to...

Re: Rankings, lists, and such

Is interesting that it appears to be by 'city', not metro. Of course U-Haul may have more locations in some cites than others or more moving options in lower ranked cities, which skew results, but still curious KCMO hit top 10. It's inline with labor force numbers, which shows KC (metro) has the hig...

Re: OFFICIAL: Power & Light District

We took MAX down to River Market late yesterday morning - was busy as usual for a nice Saturday. Then took MAX to P&L to see a movie - noon movie nearly sold out. Sprint Center had Disney thing going on, most P&L restaurants hopping, early line forming for a show at Midland Theatre. Then took MAX to...

Re: OFFICIAL: Power & Light District

Methinks P&L's success will be dependent on continued downtown population growth and even more events. P&L itself does not draw from the burbs except maybe Fri/Sat nights. P&L is active when there are other events/conferences going on. Downtown needs more events and/or more population growth to sust...

Re: Where/What is the Heart of Metro KC (in your opinion)?

I sometimes hear JoCo people call entire RM to Plaza stretch, 'downtown'. I've heard Northlanders call same stretch 'the city', as in 'going into the city'.

For a mediocre ranking they sure draw many from the coasts to the school. Looks like KU ranked 21st. Odd methodology though. Appears to include some factors that have little or nothing to do with pharmaceuticals.

Re: New to Kansas City, What should i do?

^Compared to Philly, definitely. My younger brother used to live in Center City. After moving to KC he said it felt like a weight taken off shoulder. But be prepared that KC is a much smaller city/metro than Philly. There's quite a bit here for a metro of 2M but it will feel like a smaller town in c...

Re: Plaza move-ins (ongoing)

The Neptune Apt building that was almost torn down for PS firm will stay apts, will be updated. Good thing as too many apt buildings around Plaza went condo, not many places left to lease.

Is it going in NW corner of 39th/Gilham, next to Sol? Looks like that building has had some refurb action. Would love to see him take on the building at NE corner of intersection.
