Re: GSA considers big office complex downtown

At the end of 2011, more than a quarter of downtown’s available Class A office space was empty, according to Cassidy Turley. If you throw in Class B space, the overall vacancy rate was 32 percent. That is significantly off base to what Colliers and CB Richard Ellis say, which claim downtown vacancy...

Re:

For those who drive into city it's still doable to use MAX if parking at your ending point and sticking around that district later at night. For those who live in city, is easy to take a cab if out late. I use MAX/cab combo often. Maybe there could be a MAX/cab pass that people could buy at their st...

Re: St. Louis experiencing growth near rail system

I suspect even without light rail it could still be the case. Downtown KC doesn't have LRT yet has grown too, slightly higher rate than STL actually. What I find odd is that despite STL rail, downtown STL labor force is about the same if not a bit less than KC's. Downtown KC has about 80K-100K worke...

Re: 2012 Election

The unemployment rate is absolutely not "meaningless," because the reality is people pay attention to unemployment numbers. Economists look at actual employment numbers, not unemployment rate. There is a smoke and mirrors message of improved unemployment rate but it's only because a lot of people d...

They just need to promote the MAX Orange line and show all of the places to go along the line, like this guide... http://dl.dropbox.com/u/1238514/pics/bus/maxmwk.gif There needs to be Pitch ads to promote using MAX for nightlife. Once people learn to use MAX, they'll tend to learn to use transit in ...

Whoop Dee Doo

Anyone know if they are on tour or something? They haven't produced any new material since last Fall from what I can tell. Site says they are doing a KC telethon (?) in March. The faux cable access show is the strangest thing to come out of KC since the vegan pegan drag queens on stilts that once pe...

Re: 2012 Election

WTF is up with Santorum. He's all concerned about social issues and 'religious freedom'. The US needs jobs and economic recovery, not a focus on ethical behavior, which is hardly way off base in the US. Santorum speaks vaguely about the economy as if he knows nothing about it and presses on his beli...

I use web page translators often and they are much more coherent than that. Looks like a word generator to me.

Not in bar/entertainment districts. The Plaza has converted many retail spots to restaurants with bar with no red tape.

Curious. Last time I was there the Osso Buco sucked but had a pastry dessert afterwards and it was outstanding. The Drop has a brie filled pastry that out does Lidias though.

Re: KCMO to get Google Fiber too...

Google likely will need to offer full TV service that is comparable to cable TV. While those who want ultra high speed internet will subscribe to both Google Net and cable/satellite, the typical consumer may not bother with Google if they also need to have cable/sat anyway.

Re: Westport's fate post-P&L

+1 Thanks to P&L, Westport is no longer the obnoxious metro party zone. It is now a Midtowner neighborhood restaurant/bar district - or at least leans more that way. Will be interesting to see if America's Pub closing will improve the late night problems. We won't have a good idea until summer weeke...

Yeah, can't say I care for hummus that tastes like PB. It seems when doing tahini/canola oil together, it's like peanut butter. If using olive oil, much better and tahini then has sesame seed flavor.

Re: Best Middle Eastern / Mediterranean food in the KC area.

I tend to do Zaina, Aladdin and Habashi House. Have yet to try Little Egypt in Westport, which AJoD recommends. Zaina combo plates are pretty good but the rice can be dry. Substitute salad for tabouleh and mix some with rice to mo betta it up. I like the variation of flavors compared to most places ...

Re: Uptown Arts Bar to open in Betsy Ross Building

Downtown, midtown, uptown terms are OK to use for general vicinity. There are already distinct neighborhood names within each of those vicinities. I live in Westport zipcode but usually call myself a Midtowner and friends in Hyde Park are Midtowners, as are friends in Roanoke. We have common interes...

Re: Uptown Arts Bar to open in Betsy Ross Building

Is curious how KC has the Uptown hood (around Uptown Theatre) that is surrounded by Midtown. But in the early days, Xroads used to be called Midtown - have seen it on old maps. Does the City have an official boundary for modern Midtown as they do for 'greater Downtown'? I tend to think 'greater Midt...

Re: Why Can't the West Bottoms Be Redeveloped....?

I'd rather see developers continue to focus on infill from River Market to Xroads and not focus on W Bottoms. WB is pretty isolated and highly likely won't attract developers anyway. Some artists/creatiavors (I just made that up) are moving into the Bottoms turning some buildings into live/workspace...

W Bottoms - a chilly, damp Saturday morning

Took these this morning (Sat, Feb 4). Several of the antique shops were jam packed with fellow earthlings. A few foodie trucks showed up too. http://dl.dropbox.com/u/3812896/Pics/w%20bottoms/20120204_112934.jpg http://dl.dropbox.com/u/3812896/Pics/w%20bottoms/20120204_113026.jpg http://dl.dropbox.co...
