Re: We could fund a new downtown ballpark every six months...

First off, there wasn't anything like seperation of church and state until after the founding fathers died... They must have been impressive men to have written about separation of church and state after their deaths. "Believing that religion is a matter which lies solely between man and his God, t...

Re: We could fund a new downtown ballpark every six months...

Why? ... Why not? Should we allow people to sin any longer freely? Take a look at where society has gone in the past century... Sure they had protitution, gambling, etc... in the 1800s, but they didn't have widespread use of drugs. So your assertion is that strip clubs lead to drug use (although it...

Re: Star: AMC to revive Empire Theater

I didn't read the article, but from the headline, it didn't appear that it was going to house a movie screen.  Is that correct? No. The redevelopment plan, scheduled to be formally announced at a press conference this morning at the Midland, calls for the historic Empire Theater at 14th and Ma...

Re: NYC's Freedom Tower altered...

A little late with this, since I've been out of town, but I've got to add my two cents. The new design is a little better than the original design, which I thought was just ugly and pretentious, but I still don't like it.  I don't know how you can really justify a 69-story building that's 1776 ...

Re: Strong Earthquake Risk to Central U.S.

This isn't really news.  The media retreads this story a couple times a year in their endless campaign of fearmongering.  It'll happen when it happens and there's little you can do except try to build sturdy buildings and make sure you've seen all you want to see in Memphis and St. Louis.

Re: The Future of the World.

I'm not an unconventional weapons expert by any stretch, but I think the whole EMP thing may be an urban legend that took some grain of truth and stretched it to the extreme (the neutron bomb is another example). If such devices (EMPs, not neutron bombs) were easy to build or obtain, I would think ...

Re: Blues for sale

phuqueue....that comes from expert reports....arenas make more w/o major tenants.  the city pulls more back, when a team moves in they take a much larger % of the gate.  Kemper is now making money....they don't have a huge major tenant.....it's all about the management of the facility, no...

Re: Blues for sale

Who really gives a shit anyway?  I mean, haven't it already been said that concerts and other non-sports arena events make far more money?  Personally, if we didn't get a hockey team or a professional basketball team it wouldn't hurt my feelings a damn bit.  It seems to me like we'd ...

Re: Need Facts or Help

The lack of street life probably is due at least partly to the chicken-choking heat. I can't believe that metro SA is 1.8M. I've had two job offers down there, and each time I did research, I usually saw figures of 1.5M+. The 2003 estimate for SA metro is 1.65M, according to the US Census .  K...

Re: KC Design Center: Re-imagining the Public Realm - May 24th

It was an all-around great evening. To start, the speaker Max Page alluded at length to our culture's sheer fixation with the fictional destruction of New York City, as can be seen throughout the entertainment media, in movie after movie where NYC gets pulverized. Page is ever so subtle in conveyin...

Re: How to fix baseball and save the Royals

This is the attitude that I can't stand. You try to compete EVERY year. You don't take years off. We've been bad for so long, that everyone just accepts this. Don't underestimate the power of one more good hitter. I mean, look at all the one run losses we have. Even if we didn't win the division, w...

Re: How to fix baseball and save the Royals

We're the only team in the league that can't sign decent free agents. When we try, we get the Juan Gones of the world who end up sucking. Maybe Baird did try to sign some guys, but bottom line is he failed, and as a result we have huge gaping holes in our lineup. Regarding the stopgaps, what is the...

Re: MLB Attendence 2005

April is also not a very representative month for attendance. Opening Day skews things quite a bit, and there are a lot of weekday day games, which are poorly attended. Plus, the weather sucks and kids are still in school. That's true, but it's not just because it's April.  People go out to se...

Re: How to fix baseball and save the Royals

Don't be stupid. I'm saying they have gaping holes in the lineup that could have been filled by decent players, but they chose not to. You speak of youth movement, but where does Eli Marrero, Terrence Long, and Emil Brown fit into that? They are all around 30 years old. Two of them are hitting arou...

Re: How to fix baseball and save the Royals

i don't know how old you are. i was making an assumption based on what you wrote. i saw no mention of anything after '85 and going into the '90's. you witnessed all of the futility of the '90's. swell, join the club. it's too bad you missed the royals kicking everyone's ass in the late '70's and ea...

Re: How to fix baseball and save the Royals

it's also easy to throw around that "youth movement" statement when you haven't been around long enough to see that the royals "youth movement" goes back to the 80's with no end in sight and 0 cs wins. youth movement has been made into a euphenism meaning no direction, no prospects in sight and no ...

Re: How to fix baseball and save the Royals

Yeah, Glass is a great business man. He's running the Royals into the ground. If he's being a cheapskate in order to make a bigger profit.... well, let me just say that baseball is not f*cking Wal Mart. You can't put out a cheap-ass crappy product and expect people to line up in droves to see them ...

Re: Royals...new stadiums in St Louis and Minneapolis, nails in our coffin???

I think this whole thing is really overblown.  There are a lot of baseless assertions being made here.  What do people in Nebraska or Iowa care about the stadium?  You think for the handful of games they might drive down for each year, they're worring about the stadium?  And that...

Re: Kietz calling for Bowa

that is completely wrong. they are in the middle of a bowel movement. it would be nice if david glass would wear his depends and stop shitting on us fans. he could spend 100 million a year on the royals for 20 years and still be a billionaire. i have wondered if glass was sent by mlb to destroy the...
