Re: Politics

Why do we think America should take the best from every poor country in the world? Instead of exporting freedom and democracy to Honduras, we are taking their best...those who have the strength of character and mental fortitude to travel over 1000 miles for just a chance at a new life. I know that w...

Re: Politics

Republican and Democrat brands have a lot of baggage. More people are identifying as Independent and Progressive. That’s likely part of the change in numbers.

Looks much better with the scaffolding gone, especially the south side. North side looks kind of European utilitarian.
There’s a ‘business in the front...’ joke in there somewhere.

It looks like they’re getting ready to residewalk and pave 19th as well after the main structure at Corrigan is done. Will there be bike lanes there too?

Everyone is complaining about the tan brick. If you don’t like it, walk around to the south end. It’s dark gray cladding.

Re: Tension Envelope Building

This building has been coming up a lot in conversation. I don't think they're quite ready to sell, but someone's advising them. Key piece to connect East Crossroads to 18th & Vine. Would be a difficult project just to empty the building but could be huge payoff in the end. Goodwill building just to...

Re: OFFICIAL - Loews Convention Hotel (formerly Hyatt)

I would rather it sell individually. With one owner they can do one project at a time and it takes forever. Commerce has deep pockets and owns a lot of land and hasn't developed everything after decades. I’ve found that when companies hold few properties they tend to hold them for a bigger return. ...

Re: OFFICIAL - Loews Convention Hotel (formerly Hyatt)

They will probably be under a lot of pressure to reduce the price the longer it sits, because there are activist shareholders who are demanding DST sell their real estate, and return to their core mission only. I think the best hope would b a full divestiture of all their property in one sale. The ...

Re: OFFICIAL - Loews Convention Hotel (formerly Hyatt)

Those parcels, owned by DST, were always thought to be one of the potential sites of new hotel. DST is under pressure by certain stockholders to sell off their development and real estate arm. I have a feeling that those buildings will be sold soon. I’m hearing the unofficial price they are asking ...

I still think the best tatl for KC would be Ireland or London.
Those would be two of the worst IMO. I’d prefer a continental location with lots of rail connections as well as air connections to the Middle East, Africa, etc. Amsterdam would be my first preferrance.

Nobody. Wants. Open. Borders. Many of my progressive friends do. Re: Politics

Part of the problem is the primary process. A strong progressive (single payer, open borders, increased regulation, social programs, etc) will likely win the primary. But, that type of candidate won’t win the general election. The Democrats knew that last time so they cut Sanders legs out. It’s goin...

Hopefully, these developments will spread to buildings like 909 Linwood. I’m worried that it will continue to deteriorate until finally torn down. If we really want affordable housing, a very large building like that one could make a big difference.

That article makes the new sales tax sound like the Go Bond. Something for any pet project that comes up.
