Re: Plaza move-ins (ongoing)

Think of the resources our city spends uphold racism on one had and help alleviate it's effects on the other. Think of what those resources could go to if we didn't have to do this. Look at the police budget, if I recall, it's a HUGE portion of the city budget. It's primary job is to police our eas...

Re: 95 Metcalf North Plan submitted to city

This from the Star today. Development looks pretty substantial: $250 MM. I am wondering, however, if the company (Shamrock Trading) has the wherewithal to pull it off and then occupy it let alone deliver the promised jobs. I am always skeptical when smallish companies promise to triple their workfor...

Re: Plaza move-ins (ongoing)

Yeah, the plaza is mostly made up of single use buildings. The bowl design makes it hard to be mixed use because, well, you can't build up. I think you will find a lot of opposition to removing the bowl design, at least from the general public. I’m sure many on this board would be for the removal. ...

Re: We need a new airport!!!

Flew to Houston for the first time in several years this past week. And parked at the airport overnight the first time ever. (we normally do drop off) Hobby airport isn't much busier than KCI annually and I must have seen 200 people getting food and eating just in one of the three arms at 8:45 in t...

Re: Plaza move-ins (ongoing)

I heard a rumor today that is apparently making it's way around town that Kohls is coming to the plaza. I laughed so hard I about peed my pants, but sadly it's sort of believable if they had that kind of space available. I really hope this is not the case. I do hate to say it but sometimes it is in...

Re: Fixing the KC Zoo (ongoing)

$100 million aquarium proposed for zoo. $60 mill in private money raised. Ten times the size of the Crown Center aquarium and larger than any in St Louis or Omaha. The KC Zoo has become a pretty cool place but there collection of animals actually remains pretty small for a major zoo. I'd rather see...

Looks like a substantial amount of activity. So how close is the existing vacant land to being built out? Looks like a nice combo of new builds and renovations.

Re: World Cup 2026 at Arrowhead?

No surprise, hotel rooms and transit may be the biggest obstacles for KC to overcome in getting a bid. Otherwise, KC seem to score pretty high.

Re: OFFICIAL - 21c Museum Hotel KC (former Savoy Hotel)

I was disappointed, tbh. The Savoy Grill was the cities high end restaurant of its time. They’ve lost that with the new dinning room space that is totally new, but boring and the bar area that kept the old decor but lost the high end feel. They put couches in the bar to try and fill the space inste...

Makes sense. Kansas burbs have been going at it for some time now. What a way for government to spend money.

Re: What route makes the most sense for a beginning Light Rail line in KC?

If you want a line that will be used, regardless of how difficult it would be to get it through, clearly the best route would be Olathe-Lenexa-OP-Shawnee-Merriam along I-35. That would provide downtown access to by far the most people. While a route to KCI would is a popular thought, I don't think i...

Re: OFFICIAL - 21c Museum Hotel KC (former Savoy Hotel)

Wow. That look is about 180 degrees from the way I expected them to go with the dining room. So I guess the remnants of the old Savoy Grill, the nostalgia the article mentions, are limited to the bar?

Re: Berlin - Europe

Unfortunately, KC doesn't have the economic drivers that can produce anything close to the frenzy of activity Berlin has seen. i don't buy this...GDP of KC is comparable (although not sure what is being measured with regards to the geography of "metro" Berlin). american cities always have these ast...

Re: OFFICIAL - The Gallerie (27th & Gillham)

From 27th Terrace & McGee this is going to look like either a modernist hill town or a Soviet apartment block. Not sure. The windows going in are dark framed dark smokey glass. Varied groupings of mostly narrow floor to ceiling in ones, twos or threes. I think this is going to somehow appear very h...

Re: Phase 2 streetcar to UMKC

Now that it has officially passed, how soon do we order the streetcars from CAF? And what is the plan for the maintenance facility, will it be expanded or have additional overnight streetcar parking added? first all the money needs to be identified and confirmed. Then the city/authority begins nego...

So what's the crane count right now downtown? Two at the Loew's convention hotel, 1 at the 16th Main hotel and 1 on hospital hill. Any more?

I know there was a crane at the Copaken residential project but that has topped out.

I know Obama deported a record number of people- but what worries me about Trump is that he actually uses and popularizes the rhetoric normalizing U.S. state sponsored terror against immigrants- and justifies it morally, using Christianity, and that it is simply "enforcing the law". ...like how in h...

Re: Politics

I've seen several news stories saying the economy is the best it's been in decades. If the economy was headed up over the last 8 years, then it has really improved over the last year and a half. While the economy is better than it's been over the previous 8 years, I do wonder how strong it is. If i...
