Re: Kc skyscraper drought about to max depression era droughttt.

I think a downtown move would be very good for Sprint. A lot more visibility in KC, even national, and better ability to attract critical talent as well as a general infusion of life into a company that's been teetering. With a relatively new CEO with no ties to suburban KC, now would be a great tim...

Re: P&L District: 13th & Walnut Site Proposal

Kind of a deviation from the subject but it was a surprise to me that pizza and mexican and not bbq are the restaurant foods of choice around the KC area (except for Wyandotte County).

Re: P&L District: 13th & Walnut Site Proposal

KC bbq is urban bbq. While most bbq has a rural, southern, culture, KC's is urban and is mostly developed by African american culture, not cowboys. Well, Henry Perry came here from rural Tennessee, the Bryant’s came here from rural Texas, the Gates’ came from Memphis and bought Old Kentuck BBQ from...

Tear those ugly ass apartments down! Well, they replaced the Twin Oaks which were reputed to be in a horrible state of disrepair in 2008. Apparently, the Twin Oaks was quite the place to be in KC during the 50's. Unfortunately, their replacement seems to be suffering the same fate much sooner in th...

Cordish coming to KC is the absolute number one reason that Downtown is where it's at today. If Cordish had not come, downtown would still be gentrifying, but it would be at about 10% of the current progress. H&R Block wouldn't even be there. The Midland and movie theater would still be closed....

Re: P&L District: 13th & Walnut Site Proposal

I can’t imagine Bryant’s would be in business if it wasn’t for tourists and “JoCo types” who wanted a little gritty ambience with their third-rate-if-you’re-lucky BBQ. Gates is usually worse but has the Popeyes-of-KC-BBQ market on lock. And the idea that Jack Stack is real KC urban black BBQ is Tru...

Re: P&L District: 13th & Walnut Site Proposal

I am a little relieved reading the comments above. While I had high hopes for this place and definitely have my own hierarchy of KC bbq (Joe's would be upper tier for sure but not tops), the Texas Ice House format concerned me. Having been a resident of Texas for much of my adult life, I never reall...

Shields' sudden and unprecedented interest in affordable housing really looks like her trying to curry favor with east side pols after crossing the NAACP on the Westport sidewalks fiasco. She's got a citywide election coming in 13 months. Time to make friends. I have a hard time believing that anyo...

Re: We need a new airport!!!

So while we are on the subject, what is the status of the new terminal at KCI right now? When is the earliest construction can start? Is the council done being duplicitous or is there something still to be decided? This thing needs to get on some kind of a fast track schedule.

Re: P&L District: 13th & Walnut Site Proposal

Soft open tonight for County Line/Road Ice House. Ticketed. I suspect this will finally be the big draw restaurant they have wanted from the beginning. Not that some of the others don't draw well (Bristol's is always busy when I'm there) but if done like I think it will be done, this place will be ...

Re: Church of the Resurrection Downtown Campus

Weird church building. Looks like a commercial office or lab building that you would find in an industrial park. I've seen churches adopt this type of building for use but never seen anything like this built for purpose as a church. No sanctuary? Is their office or is it their actual gathering place?

It’s going to be hard to lure big companies when there is no avalible or soon to be available or really any substantial “in the pipeline” office space. But it’s also hard to build any office space without companies already being interested in it.(spec is hard) We need spec. Office Space in more mix...

Marcus Peters being traded to the Rams for draft picks. http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap3000000917336/article/kansas-city-chiefs-trading-marcus-peters-to-la-rams Seems like a bad move, had 2 years left, probably could have got the same trade this time next year. Re: Kc skyscraper drought about to max depression era droughttt.

What is really surprising is that the GSA shut down at the Bannister complex and subsequent move downtown did not even generate the demand for more space. If I recall properly, the workforce was pretty easily absorbed into existing space. That move along with the removal of office space for condo's ...

Re: Kc skyscraper drought about to max depression era droughttt.

Given the turn this thread has taken, this article fits. It's a comparison of the economies of the 100 largest U.S. cities. And it has maps. :D According to this, some of KC's neighbors aren't doing as well as I thought: Minneapolis, Omaha, OKC. Make sure to download and take a look at the dashboar...

^ Right. It's not like KC is trying to keep up with Minneapolis, or Denver or Seattle or Charlotte or even Nashville now. It's the cities you mentioned, plus Baltimore, Pittsburgh, Cincinnati etc as well, not to mention smaller cities like Des Moines, Omaha, OKC etc. KC is a better city than most o...

Haddad Restaurant Group took it over some time ago and did absolutely nothing but cut costs and ride the coattails of it's former glory. History and name recognition kept them open this long, but without updating this is what happens. Seems like anything Haddad takes over fails at some point. Winst...

I was in there for lunch about a year ago. I think we were the only people in the restaurant in the middle of the lunch hour that day. Our friends said that they had lost a lot of their clientele. The place was very old style.
