Re: Kc skyscraper drought about to max depression era droughttt.

A few of the older apartment complexes in the neighborhood have already been refurbished and updated. And as the complex grows more of the nearby housing stock will also be refurbished and updated. It will take time, afterall look at the urban core of KC and the time it has taken till now and still ...

Re: Kc skyscraper drought about to max depression era droughttt.

Not sure how large you consider H&R Block but that would be the only large firm I can think of that has moved to downtown in the last 25 years. But that move was only from the fringe of the Plaza so for the city as a whole it wasn't that beneficial. Plus wasn't there plans for a second tower for the...

Re: Sidewalk snow removal/enforcement

Guess some have forgotten, or never learned to walk downtown streets when there is ice and/or snow. Gone are the days of buckled rubber boots or galoshes I guess. May not be stylish but they worked pretty good years ago.

Of course each downtown is different but here is a warning shot about future development of apartments. https://www.msn.com/en-us/money/realestate/major-apartment-developer-warns-of-acute-crisis-ahead/ar-BBJdC0O?li=BBnbfcN "Scan the downtowns of the nation's largest cities, and you are likely to see...

Re: We need a new airport!!!

I would say it is legal. Right-to-work is between the worker and the employer. Requiring union labor would be a contract issue between the parties in the contract. Prevailing wage, which is usually the local union rate, would likely be part of the contract.

Re: Politics

Reading an article that says the Tea Party is dead and the deficit hawks are no more. Reasons being the recent tax reform package that increased the deficit and the just passed agreement to keep the government running that increases the funds for the military and domestic programs.

Re: Politics

If the House, and maybe the Senate, turn Democratic with the 2018 elections the GOP and the President will see these committees come to different conclusions. Those in power always forget about the paybacks they receive when they are no longer in power.

Re: The Health Care Debate

Now we have an announcement that Amazon, Berkshire Hathaway, and JP Morgan Chase are banding together to explore a health care system for their employees. This will be an interesting development especially if a few other large employers join the effort.

Midtown KC Post

Came across this article in a Facebook group about KC that I am in. Looks like people were fighting density back in the 1920's. http://midtownkcpost.com/roanoke-property-owners-took-a-stand-against-apartments-in-1920s/ "In the 1920s, the owners of single-family homes in the Roanoke neighborhood took...

Re: Phase 2 streetcar to UMKC

Calling it a transit "park" doesn't change the nature of what it is. Transit "stop". You re arguing the point from your point-of-view. I would imagine many more would argue theirs from a very different point-of-view. And that would be a city-wide point-of-view.

"we should sell off the land"

As dedicated parkland it would take a vote of the people to allow.

Wonder how many of those cities/states would implement those LGBTQ protections if that was a condition of securing this project or Apple's?

Re: A quick population hypothetical for data fiends

Yes, the density of KCMO was never close to that of other big cities. Don't forget most big cities were developed before the Civil War. Most of the development of KCMO came after that war. And one thing that went hand-in-hand with that development was the start of mass transit. That way KCMO grew in...
