Re: Grinders West

Had dinner last nite, very good.  Wife said the blt was the best she ever had.  Honey bread?, smoked bacon, chipotle sauce and avocado.  I had pastrami and corn chowder, yum.  Only bummer no liquor license yet, though Grinders is right next door.  Couple months the waitress said.

Re: Does Olathe Have a Soul?

Does OP have a soul? I'd say it does not either. I remember when I moved there from Blue Springs as a kid. Blue Springs had a wonderful sense of community. Everyone rallied around the high school football team. We had the Fall Fun Fest. It felt like a small town near a big city. Then we moved to OP...

Re: Did Bush do anything right?

I disagree on Katrina, the transition to "Brownie" from a well-respected non-partisan group of disaster preparedness geeks, ala MARC, happened on his watch.  Ultimately headed by incompetent hacks with a diminished budget and mandate.  Not saying he could have prevented everything, but still a BIG o...

Re: As the Mid East burns...

It's easy to forget just how off center we got.  Compare the Bush I/Clinton spread to the Clinton/Bush II.  I'd be happy if the change we realize by 2012 is the equlibrium of 92-96.

Re: Olathe Great Center

It seems like something that would be popular.  As detailed in the book Applebee's America, megachurches and chain stores/restaurants serve as proxies for the town square in exurban America.  I think a combination of the two could have potential.  Perhaps it could also have some retail, such as Mar...

Re: What can we do for Green. . .

I guess my thought is to set a floor, with everyone(airlines, business, etc.) charging a fuel surcharge despite falling prices, no need to let gas fall below a certain level.  I know it's not free market, but I think with petroleums unusual characteristics (non-renewable, global warming, etc.), this...

Re: As the Mid East burns...

I wondered how long it would be before this came up. "Those dirty Republicans screwed it up so bad we can never straighten it out!" If things are so messed up, make your "Chosen One" fix it. Or have you just now come to the conclusion that he's not going to be any better than any other rat bastard ...

the usual result is we don't get the big boom or the big bust, these numbers seem to reinforce that for now

Really, I'm surprised.  Unless they spike upwards again soon to the 4$ level, I think people are enured to 2.50 a gallon.  It's to the point that <1.50 feels wrong.

Re: What can we do for Green. . .

Agreed!  I'm a bit worried about the current economic climate and the possibility that a gas tax might get diverted elsewhere in the budget.
