Re: Bike Lanes

Now, they're calling for changes to make the street, lined with protected bike lanes, safer for everyone.
They are not calling for making the street safe for everyone, they are calling for making the street safe for people to fly down the street at 40+ MPH.

Re: Next Mayor 2019

Did anyone catch Jolies horrible idea regarding a city department of transportation? Instead of putting money towards the capital necessary to fix the issues, given the various departments and crews we already have, we should totally just put more money into staffing another person inside City Hall...

Re: Next Mayor 2019

We have a 20 year funding mechanism (GO Bond). We should have a 20 year approach. DOT is how you do that.

Re: Next Mayor 2019

We can either build projects one by one with blinders on or take a comprehensive planning approach to projects. If someone prefers the former, I'm sure they would never complain when a street is repaved and then torn up for utility repair the following year.

Re: Misc Crossroads News

I thought buildings with arts uses had tax abatements. Is that still a thing?

If rents are soaring in a building with a performance space, I'm going to guess the owner is looking to redevelop it into something else.

Re: Misc Crossroads News

The Living Room, a performance space at 1818 McGee, announced it is closing after this season. They sent out an email stating Full of gratitude for the nine years we’ve spent in our home we are announcing our tenth and final season at 1818 McGee. Due to soaring city taxes and rental costs in The Cro...

Re: Next Mayor 2019

I love the idea and am interested in more details regarding how she would implement it. It’s a lot bolder move than Lucas is giving credit for or he is showing a real lack of understanding of how this would impact city operations.

Re: Kansas, Missouri battle over companies

I hope it’s not split up. I’d love to see this kick start East Village. Federal jobs have a mandate to locate in urban core.

Alternatively I could see this going in the old EPA building in KCK. (I can’t remember if that building has been filled yet )

Re: Why Can't the West Bottoms Be Redeveloped....?

Its a nice project and I hope its successful. The only problem is no one lives around it. On the website you link to there is a slide show of what I guess they are trying to show as comparable projects. The main difference I see is that in each of those projects you can see apartments surrounding th...

Re: wtf is happening to w. 39th?!

Apparently there are new owners of the property and rumors are that they are planning some sort of mixed use development. The liquor store's lease was not extended and their last day in business is near. A few people on the neighborhood FB page voiced displeasure on the new development unless all o...

Re: wtf is happening to w. 39th?!

I recall reading a rumor on this board awhile back that a developer was trying to purchase the property to redevelop it. The rumor was that she refused to sell because the developer was going to do apartments over retail.

Re: OFFICIAL - Loews Convention Hotel (formerly Hyatt)

Where do you see One light being 329 ft? Wikipedia lists One Light at about 245 with Two light being about 235 feet. Obviously wikipedia could be wrong, but based on their list of other heights, it seems about right to me. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_tallest_buildings_in_Kansas_City,_Misso...

Re: OFFICIAL - Loews Convention Hotel (formerly Hyatt)

I"m guessing strata and 3 light will be about the same height? It'll be nice to add to the density downtown. For comparison sake. The convention hotel is 23 floors and about 260 ft. 3-light is going to be around 30 floors with comparable floor heights. Strata is set to be 25 floors, but office floo...

Re: KC metro growth and migration stats

With or without a state capitol, Indianapolis sucks and outside of the sports emphasis, I'll personally never see the allure. It's not like KC has no major universities - MU, KU and K-State, not to mention a ton of smaller schools are all within a reasonable distance to attract jobs and talent. But...

There is a 7-story hotel planned for the parking lot next to the law offices here.
