Re: Star calls for more bike lanes

I think Gilham would be a perfect way to connect DT to plaza/brookside trolley trail.  Then complete the making grand grand project and go all the way to rivermarket...seems like it would take minimal money and would be a huge boost to biking in this city. I also think Gregory and/or Meyer need to b...

Re: Why can't we have straight(er) bus routes?

Dave, thanks for the link.  Hopefully that study or whatever it is has some impact on route changes or alignments.  Lots of, duh...obvious stuff.  But, really that is how ridiculous this bus system is in parts right now that when it states stuff like "bus lines should be linear and avoid deviations ...

Re: Kansas City has a new mayor - Sly James

Did anybody watch last weeks "week in review" on KCPT?  1st, i really like that show and all the local shows they do, But I wanted to bring up what it was about.  They had 4 council members on instead of the usual pundits (Circo, marcussen, brooks, and ford i think). It was very informative to see w...

Re: Proposed $30M Residential Development near Plaza

I think this will definitely be supported by the council.  I know some people's problem with the Polsinelli building was that it would be taking away residential...well, this certainly more than replaces that... This is EXACTLY the kind of development that should be happening on the north side of th...

Re: KCMO Downtown Streetcar

I was just going to post that.  I have already given them a few emails and they will respond. Everyone on here should be emailing that website and giving their REAL input and give them your REAL name, address, and contact info and they will count your input.  Especially if you are someone who is goi...

Re: KCMO Downtown Streetcar

So how would KC fund a multi-million dollar rail investment with no fares? Does any other city in the county offer that? Not to be a Debbie Downer, but eliminating fares isn't even worth mentioning on a wish list. By creating a Transit Tax District.  Which is the exact same (as has been mentioned o...

Re: KCMO Downtown Streetcar

I think people are jumping to too many conclusions...nothing has been decided as far as I can tell.  Its just the "well, its happening in KC so they're bound to 'ef it up" mentality.  Which may be justified, but you have to admit it is kind of amazing following this thread.  At the beginning everyon...

Re: KCMO Downtown Streetcar

My understanding is that this will be expanded in the future and is just a start...also with the possibility of creating other similar over lapping lines in other parts of the city. I also would rather have a LRT line to jump on, but in reality KC may not be able to support such a line right now.  T...

Re: City wants your help to streamline city bureaucracy

Have something like an HR rep or customer service rep to handle each business as they go through the process and later as a point of contact for questions or follow inspections.  At the end of each year or application process they get rated by the businesses they handle...if they don't get passing g...

Cellar and loft is planning to open the third floor of their building as a scotch and cigar bar.  Should be open sometime late summer or early fall they say.

Gotta say, I really love this place.

Re: KCMO Downtown Streetcar

Doesn't MO have a fairly significant lower tax on gas than KS?  Seems like we should be able to throw on a local tax to make the tax equal on both sides of the stateline and use the revenue to help fund transit. An autosales tax doesn't seem like it would go over well as people would just buy their ...

Re: KCMO Downtown Streetcar

My heartburn with main comes from my recent walks through p&l during an event or even a typical weekend night.....main is stopped in both directions with people entering garages etc. I imagine a streetcar sitting in that mess....and it scares me. I know what you're talking about and it seems like t...

Re: KCMO Downtown Streetcar

wildcat- i agree.  most of DT has some lots needing development...i'd be fine with main or baltimore as the line...i think any would be fine, though grand probably comes in last for me due to the fact that I think the make grand grand plan would be better for it and its farthest from convention/hote...

Re: KCMO Downtown Streetcar

In fact, I think they should focus the most on connecting business, retail, and dining/nightlife down main.  This gets people who aren't living DT to ride.  If they did this, then I would hope they will do something in consideration for people who live within DT limits (especially if it is funded wi...

Re: KCMO Downtown Streetcar

Another big selling point people try to bring up when talking about putting in rail transit is its ability to bring about development...both business and residential.  This is something they will be considering as well and may convince some people to put it down Grand or elsewhere where there are lo...

Re: KCMO Downtown Streetcar

on kc smart moves website it has an FAQ that states the streetcars will have signal priorities to make them faster and clear approaching intersections. How will streetcars operate in mixed traffic? Won?t this cause more congestion? Streetcars operate in a mixed lane of traffic in essentially the sam...

Re: KCMO Downtown Streetcar

Sanders plan is still moving forward.  It sounds to me like they want to do exactly what Grid is trying to say.  Get east jackson county suburbs a commuter line into downtown while building the street car as a seperate project (but obviously planned in tandem). Having heard Russ johnson talk about t...

Re: Historic Union Hill apartment buildings being torn down

I find that many landowner way over value what they have.  There really isn't any neighborhoods in KC (maybe plaza) that warrant a high value without already having had significant improvements made to it (building/housing renovation).  They see other cities that have a dense urban vibrancy where th...
