Re: Downtown office vacancy 2016

It's good to hear this news, I have been wondering about the vacancies for a while. How "efficient" or attractive is some of the office space in City Center Square, Town Pavilion and One Kansas City Place? One Kansas City looks like the floor plates might be too small for modern companies. City Cent...

Re: KCMO Downtown Streetcar

The reason I picked Paseo West for a spur line is because it's might be less a problem politically to set up a transportation district there. Along Truman you have several low-income housing projects to content with politically. Would residents approve a district? The low-income housing residents a...

Re: KCMO Downtown Streetcar

Regarding Paseo: To me, Truman makes much more sense than 12th Street. It runs all the way to the Independencs Square and runs through the 18th and Vine District. The 18th and Vine District is probably the best shot we've got at encouraging a lot of redevelopment in that area. Best idea would be to ...

Re: KCMO Downtown Streetcar

would it be possible to try to capitalize on the momentum by getting petitions out there for getting some sort of light rail-type extension for north of the river I've seriously debated starting the petition. 50x signatures. I can come up with 7 immediately. I'm waiting to see what the Chastain vot...

Re: Westport's fate post-P&L

If this had been a parking lot in danger of getting built on, everyone in the neighborhood would have heard about its impending doom a year in advance, public meetings would have been held, and we all would have had a good cry. Oh, well. LOL, you are too right... Thankfully with the new plan though...

Re: Clay Chastain coming back with light rail

He's ridiculous and completely narcissistic. But to be very honest, I'm probably going to vote yes. If it passes, the city has legal grounding to strike it down or use the funds elsewhere. Obviously it's stupid to completely cannibalize the bus system as he's proposing. But the city could probably d...

Re: KCMO Downtown Streetcar

I know everything is complicated when it comes to these issues with rail, politics etc... But since we are going to try to capitalize on the streetcar success by expanding the line to UMKC, would it be possible to try to capitalize on the momentum by getting petitions out there for getting some sort...

Re: 13th and Grand tower

kind of tough to blame them for not building new spec towers when office space is everywhere. Exactly, there's still a ton of office space available downtown. Not all of it may be desireable for some companies, but it isn't worth a developer investing in a 12-30 story office building without having...

Re: The KC City Flag

Even better idea than the Sporting KC one is to take the KC Monarchs logo and use it as the primary or sole element on the flag: http://www.underconsideration.com/brandnew/archives/kansas_city_missouri_logo_detail.png That's not a Monarchs logo, it's the city's newish official logo , since 2013. Re: The KC City Flag

I watched that TED Talk a couple weeks ago too! I think a flag design that is simple, and takes inspiration from Sporting KC's Jersey a few years ago would be great: http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/713eDh7RMBL._SL1500_.jpg For those who didn't know, it's the border of KS & MO, with the logo on...

Re: New Convention Hotel

Until the contract issues were figured out (see the lawsuit) there was no clear ability for the city to transfer title of the land, as it was part of the incentives packages. If I were the developer/owner I wouldn't do any work on a piece of land before I knew it was mine to use. Laws, permits, etc...

Re: Steam plant in the River Market will stop burning coal, open 4 acres for development

This is really nice! One thing I've thought for a long time, and maybe it's still a few decades down the road, is how cool it'd be to eventually get the plant totally cleaned up and converted into something else. Maybe a downtown casino? What would be cool about it, is they could clean up the stacks...

Re: New Broadway Bridge

Upgrading 71 Highway to Interstate grade through E Side should maybe be higher priority (understand there are some type of legal restrictions, need to find a way to overturn). The Bruce Watkins/ US-71 roadway land was cleared in the 1960s (although not built until the late 1980s) and was originally...

Re: Downtown Loop

If we get rid of the north side of the loop, is there much sense in keeping the west side of the loop? There's two ways into downtown from the south if you remove it. 21st, Truman Road, 14th The former is a horrible place to put a ton of people into downtown. 14th isn't that great because it hits t...

Re: Downtown Loop

If we get rid of the north side of the loop, is there much sense in keeping the west side of the loop? There are a ton of people who still use the Broadway Bridge, though much fewer who use the viaduct. But the Broadway Bridge has to stay (that is, with a replacement). Plus, you aren't really cutti...

Re: New Broadway Bridge

It's good to hear that information. The city tries to work with developers and others who want to improve the city. Is this contingent on any budgetary items that rely on the US Congress working with the POTUS? Like many things, such as light rail and commuter rail, it'd be great to have, but acquir...

Re: OFFICIAL: East Village downtown neighborhood

The other weakness in your argument is that if the garage was built as a fall-back for residential apartments, then why did the East Village Apartments, on the same block, still require so much surface parking? It wasn't really offered as an argument, merely a possible explanation. You need 1 off-s...

Well then that's helpful, and makes complete sense. I'm not up to the city code as far as the downtown area goes.

Re: OFFICIAL: East Village downtown neighborhood

Ugly, low density, parking garage extends through one whole street Due to zoning restrictions and other issues, chances are that the parking garage was put there to help serve as a code fall-back when they build additional apartments in the East Village. The city has some ridiculous restrictions as...
