Re: Politics

One would hope that Dems learned where their weakness is in Kansas, and worked hard to address it.

Re: OFFICIAL - ARTerra (21st and Wyandotte)

When the building is done, we need Tosspot to take some aerial photos during the day so we can really get an eye for the contrast of this new building to the others around it.

Re: Proposition D: Raising the gas tax

The state maintains a lot of roads that probably should be county roads.

Proposition D: Raising the gas tax

I lean towards voting for Proposition D and raising the gas tax. The Kansas City Star supports voting yes. https://www.kansascity.com/opinion/editorials/article220348390.html The St. Louis Post-Dispatch supports voting yes. This article on the NextStL website makes a good argument to vote NO. It's n...

Re: Politics

Wyandotte County turnout will probably decide who is governor of Kansas, and the Davids/Yoder race. Had Wyandotte County Democrats turned out in higher numbers, Brownback might not have gotten a second term. ... The recent track record isn’t too promising. The 2014 general election featured the re-e...

I wonder if they are drilling to see how far down until they hit bedrock before planning a new building?

Re: Why Can't the West Bottoms Be Redeveloped....?

GREEN INFRASTRUCTURE BELOW THE BOTTOMS ... Notably, this is the first time a municipal water federal consent decree has allowed the use of green infrastructure, according to Andy Shively, a special assistant to the City Manager Troy Schulte, who works on issues relating to the consent decree. And th...

Re: Politics

My worst fear is that a new generation of young white nationalists are showing up in the Millennial increase you cite. Ones that never bothered to vote before, but have been emboldened to by Trump dog whistles. Ones that have been sitting in their parents' basements until now. Some that weren't old ...

Re: Plaza move-ins (ongoing)

I don't know if anyone else is thinking this, but I wonder how long the Nordstom will even be there. What happens if they close that location 10 years after rebuilding the parcel? Do they tear it down once again and rebuild? Will this new building be designed to be separated into smaller retail spac...

The trees planted in tree wells along the north side of W. 10th, between Baltimore and Wyandotte-- when the new library garage was built, are also gone. 2007 https://www.google.com/maps/@39.1022322,-94.5843605,3a,75y,330.22h,95.22t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sqaXUMbVv8LhlicgC7cxJnA!2e0!7i3328!8i1664 2018 ht...

Re: Postcards From the Edge of Time

The New Nelson building was on the southeast corner of Missouri and Main Street. It was destroyed by fire. I don't know the exact year, but the library has a photo of it intact and dated 1949.

Re: Politics

No one knows what will happen until it does. The Democrats could fail to win back the House. Polls cannot be trusted, as they have been shown to be wrong. There are some analysts who believe that voters don't always answer truthfully to pollsters. Intention to vote is not voting. People intend to do...

...The architecture doesn't have any Spanish elements or nods to the Plaza architectural style. I'm sure the Save the Plaza folks won't be pleased. Re: Beacon Hill

On the island north of 71, I have sort of dreamed that it might get a couple of high- to mid-rise apartment buildings instead of townhouses or single famiy houses. The views of downtown, and in all directions, would be nice there. Since it is uninhabited, now would be the time to zone for high-densi...

Re: Misc Crossroads News

None of the buildings are really very attractive in their current state. I think all the windows have been cinder blocked. I'd be fine with tearing them down as long as something went in it's place (besides a surface lot). I wondered what these buildings might look like if they were taken back to t...
