Re: Next Mayor 2019

I am reporting what I am observing. The Paseo is one of those emotional responses where residents feel another slight from City Hall. Everyone is correct about there being more important issues to care about. For some residents, the renaming was the last straw. These neighborhoods have gone decades ...

Re: Plaza move-ins (ongoing)

What you are saying may be true. However, when I was being shown houses to buy, I ruled out some immediately because of the way the exterior looked. PumpkinStalker doesn't post much anymore, but I know he is incapable of living in a Dutch Colonial house. The thought of it makes his flesh melt off. :...

Re: Plaza move-ins (ongoing)

I would have to *strongly* disagree. People care about buildings that currently have no function, just because of the unique architecture or other aesthetic benefits. In terms of why we love a place/city, I think it goes deeper than functionality, or maximizing the utility of land. Not to say unuse...

I think this tweet is a good example of the divide between "designers" and the average citizen. Read the comments. https://twitter.com/SFGate/status/1094569556272603136 https://pbs.twimg.com/media/DzCxNcXVsAAoXxc.jpg It's a horror to see them do that to a house that only needed to have the exterior...

Re: Next Mayor 2019

I am wondering though how long it will take for the polls to adjust to the Paseo renaming issue. From what I'm hearing, a lot of Old Northeast residents who were supporting some candidates have now switched support away from any candidate that voted for the renaming. You mean the lower-than-average...

Re: Affordable Housing

Another point that needs to be made is rental prices went up after the 2008 economic crisis. Many people lost their homes, and were forced back into the rental market. This increased demand for lower-priced units. Many of those people are still living in rental housing. They might have been laid off...

Re: Plaza move-ins (ongoing)

However, if you study what HUD has been doing in recent decades, you will see that they moved from non-descript, cheap, dormitory-type buildings to building communities that are more traditional-looking, and that look like homes instead of motels.

Re: OFFICIAL - Strata (H&R Block's 2nd Tower)

I remember one of the top Cerner executives being interviewed a few years back before the Bannister campus was even a thought, and I recall him saying that a strong downtown was important for their recruitment efforts from outside the city. He said that they couldn't get anyone to move here from out...

That's a really good article Brewcrew. Thanks for posting it. It's important to educate people about the value of density in supporting a city, and how low-density sprawl development is not financially sustainable as it ages. Those suburban estate lots will become the most expensive to service, and ...

It was impossible to find one then because they really haven't existed historically in KCMO. The ones that did were demolished. Here there are attached townhouses with common areas/HOA t...
