Re: KCMO Downtown Streetcar

I completely prefer Walnut.  I think the most effective route would end up on the East side of the River Market (which Walnut and Grand allow) but then also end up at Union Station (I think running through Crown Center is problematic with the number of catwalks down there and the number of times the...

Re: Historic Union Hill apartment buildings being torn down

Also, there is a large building on Oak behind the Berbigula, this would be perfect for one of those urban Target or Walmarts. With that location by Union Hill, Longfellow, Hyde Park and near all the new Union Hill Apartments/Cadillac building I think it'd be perfect for a small urban grocery store.

Re: Historic Union Hill apartment buildings being torn down

. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v727/FangKC/KansasCity/LinwoodMainApts.jpg The building to the west has been renovated for a year or two. But the building on the east side remains mostly boarded up. That whole stretch of Lindwood is such a mess of suburban type buildings that completely don't f...

Re: Pet licensing sweep

They have had sweeps in the past and will have them in the future when the need arises, and it isn't on an annual basis so I doubt there will be much griping, if any, at budget time.  Besides there is a long time between now and then so many will just forget about it. Don't bet on the griping part.

Re: Pet licensing sweep

Where we they when the city's budget was put together?  Are they complaining to the council or just venting on a forum?  If they actually want a change then go to the people that make the decision. The sweeps just started after the budget was approved. I'd be surprised if the sweeps continue that p...

Re: Pet licensing sweep

I imagine that the City gets as many complaints about animals as it does about anything else.  If you have a neighbor with a dog barking all night, or the smell of dog shit drifting into your house, you complain to the city. I wonder how many calls they get complaining about unlicensed pets? Also A...

Re: Pet licensing sweep

I think you missed the whole point. 44 people dead in KC this year. Major public transit cuts. Crappy roads. Sewers that need to be replaced. Schools that have been unaccredited for more than a decade. And during the most recent budget talks, Animal Control remained completely uncut -- so they can g...

Re: Pet licensing sweep

No, I think he's saying that ticketing people for not having licenses for pets should be a lower priority than breaking up dogfighting rings. Seems like I can think of 500 things that are bigger issues in this city than having unlicensed pets....and yeah, basic animal cruelty and dog fighting would...

Re: Pet licensing sweep

So is this enforcement in fact being outsourced to a private contractor? Not that I'm aware of. Where did you hear this? That would be even a BIGGER waste of money than just having our own people do it (which is also a waste of money). I know that Spay/Neuter Kansas City - a local 501c3 -- is going...

Re: Pet licensing sweep

Three days in a row. I think it's interesting that if you have a cat in your home and allow it to starve to death then you could be convicted of a felony for animal cruelty. However, if you have a cat on your front porch, it's against the law to feed it to keep it from starving to death. I'm not sur...

Re: Pet licensing sweep

Fang, There is actually a really big difference between all of those things and this. The 4th Amendment allows for protection for searches and seizures unless there is due cause to do so (which is where warrants come in). Over the years, various legal cases allow for things "in plain sight"...

Re: ideas for the SW and SE corners of Linwood & Troost.

Is that related to the MAX line going down Troost?  I've seen a lot of work along those lines down Troost with MAX signs prominently displayed. Yes -- and the empty lot on the SW corner of 31st and Linwood is going to be used as a Park and ride. Not that a park and ride 20 blocks from your final de...

Re: Pet licensing sweep

What about the feral cats that I occasionally leave food on the porch for? Are those 'my' pets? I certainly don't consider them pets. According to city bylaws, if you feed them for 3 days, they're yours. So not only would you need to license them, if you have more than 4, you are over the pet limit...

Re: Pet licensing sweep

Personally I find this an interesting thing to think about in regards to rights, nonetheless.... I agree -- because I think if they were going door to door looking for anything more significant than pet licenses people would be REALLY upset. Like I said, if they were going door to door on the West ...

Re: Pet licensing sweep

I'm certainly no lawyer, but it sure seems illegal. Think about if they tried to do door-to-door sweeps on anything else and whether or not this would be considered legal?  What do you think the reaction would be if they were doing door-to-door sweeps looking for illegal weapons, drugs, or illegal i...

Re: huge electrical poles on troost.

With the Troost BRT line going in - -and the infastructure improvements that are going to come with that, it should have been a no-brainer to couple those projects and run the lines underground. The reason Troost was supposedly chosen for the lines was because they said they needed them to connect t...

Re: KC concert tours higher than past

If find that people who think KC is boring with not enough to do are boring people themselves.  KC also is about top 10 or so in live theatre performances (about 3rd out of midwest/south).  There seems to be a parallel of those who complain about parking and their level of being a bore themselves. ...

Re: House on 38th and Warwick

I don't think anyone in the "Hyde Park" neighborhood is particularly against this (Hyde Park being Gillham to Troost, Linwood to Cleaver III). Not that I've heard anyway.  In fact, I think many are pretty excited about the prospect of it maybe heading down Linwood. I've heard no rumblings ...

Re: House on 38th and Warwick

I live in North Hyde Park and spend a fair amount of time over there off of Warwick.  There are some pretty good things about that neighborhood -- close to the park, use of Westport HS track, good housing stock, etc.  That stretch of 39th street between Main and the Convenience store is one of the m...

No kidding. I know that the surface parking lot is better than the abandoned gas station...but a ribbon cutting for a surface lot?!?  Maybe redevelopment isn't going as well as I thought.
