Re: 39th St./KU Med development?

Hospitals can be responsive to urban design, but it shouldn't be their first priority.

Re: 39th St./KU Med development?

This isn't just a street in a random neighborhood or shopping center. If there is anywhere that a wacky what-if scenario is justified, it's there. And keep in mind that the hospital was there first, with the shops and other amenities springing up to serve it.

Re: 39th St./KU Med development?

Well, there are structures right on that corner -- I'm not sure what's all under there, but there are a dozen manhole covers and other access points. I suppose they could have put a building on there, but it would just be a dummy. It's not not they could have put a shop there or anything else that w...

Doesn't have to be lye, especially here in KC where the water is already kinda basic. Sometimes people use a little sugar or malt in the water.

Re: OFFICIAL: The Streets at Metcalf (Metcalf South redevelo

True. At this stage it's more likely to be something along the lines of making sure that they're not going to spend a bunch of money and time proposing something that will be shot down in those later meetings. Good public participation shouldn't just be something that you do to check a couple of box...

There will be rezoning and replatting, and that always requires public participating

Which is why you don't do a move lightly. I work for a consulting firm, publicly traded, that works on the billable hours model. We don't own ANYTHING.

Re: Status and future of the River Market area??

It's much easier to bill clients for rent than to try to figure in the fluctuating value of a capital asset.

Re: Best place for lox?

A good bagel should have a shiny smooth surface and a dense chewy interior. It should be plump and not a whole lot bigger in diameter than the palm of your hand. It should be tasty and worth eating even if it is not toasted. The best bagel I've had recently (NY is a dim memory) was from Yorgo's, a p...

Based on my extensive research, they do not.

Re: What are downtown KC's best corporate partners?

Does Boulevard count? Not really in DT proper, but they could very easily have moved to a facility on the other side of the loop rather than trying to expand in their current location. And the amount of free beer they give away to various urban events is ungodly. Probably should throw Roasterie and ...

Re: Jewish Community Center shootings

On another note, I noticed that a couple articles are saying "'Kansas City' shootings". Tuesday NBC Nightly News said he was "in a courtroom near Kansas City, Kansas" or something similar. Which is technically correct, but I'm sure they meant to say "Kansas City, Missouri.&...

Re: Downtown Buildings with Activity

I was walking past that old white tiled building next to Anthony's on Grand (seem to recall something about it being an old White Castle). They have opened up the window and a guy in a Baldwin denim cap was in there working. I was on the other side of the street, so I couldn't ask him what he was up...

Seeing as how those are little trucks on the loading dock on the southeast corner, I think it's pretty safe to say that is NOT the entrance.

Re: "OP Expects Single-Family Boom"

It would have been a miracle to keep the Johnson Drive storefronts full with the ongoing flood-control construction that's been going on for what feels like a decade. I think they've done a fantastic job considering how many businesses have had to put up "HONEST! We're still in business!" ...
