Re: 2008 Big 12 football predictions

Just curious for you Missouri fans: if your team ends up with zero or one losses this year, having avoided Oklahoma, Texas Tech, and Texas A&M, will it be as illegitimate as Kansas' record last year when they didn't face Oklahoma, Texas Tech, and Texas? Or will that argument somehow be waved off...

Re: Poster Size Photos

I have used www.perfectposters.com many times. They are very cheap compared to any physical store. 24x16 costs $10. 48x32 costs $40. Try getting that at Ritz (I should know, I worked there). And the quality is quite good. I recommend their glossy paper for the best colors unless you don't want gloss...

Re: The elusive media center pc - not here yet apparently

Toss, the problem is definitely not technology. I was looking into this just for fun last year (no intention of actually spending money!) and you can certainly build your own computer capable of doing what you want. The actual issue is getting content into your personal box. For subscriber TV servic...

Re: OFFICIAL: East Village downtown neighborhood

The economics for well done new construction housing in the downtown market are very tough.  Even with subsidy it is a challange.  Why do you think there are no new apartment buildings or towers going up?  Perhaps they could slap up some suburban style 3-story junk and make it work, but these need ...

Re: Official: KCMO Light Rail

I am confused as to why no serious consideration is being given to a literal compromise between Grand and Main in the CBD - specifically, Walnut. I realize it is quite a narrow street, but why not make a bold move and make car traffic a lower priority than public transit? Maybe it would be good to p...

Re: We need a new airport!!!

KCI has the room to design and build a top quality terminal from scratch that would only be 15 minutes from downtown and in a booming suburban area.  Few cities can say that. It would be a chance to land a hub.  It doesn't have to be American, even Midwest or Southwest could do much more in KC if t...

Re: Tulsa, OK

Doing a little reading up on Tulsa... I've never seen a city that size with the types of homes south of its downtown area. The south side of Tulsa is easily comparable to the Ward Parkway/Leawood/Mission Hills area of KC. Very attractive wooded subdivisions with everything ranging from gated estate...

Re: New Convention Hotel talk

This site is getting really pathetic really quick. I miss Barnes. This site is getting really pathetic (although the descent hasn't necessarily been sudden). But it's a different reason from my perspective. Little to do with Barnes or Funk or conventions or PACs. I live in Sydney, Australia now. ht...

Re: Election 2008

His name is BARACK HUSSEIN OBAMA.  Calling him that has "racist undertones" in the first place?  As far as the GOP condoning that, you're probably right.  They have a White House to try a win.  If it hurts your enemy, it helps you. Again, you're probably right.  The GOP is trying to win a...

Re: Election 2008

That "Obama is a Muslim" and "his middle name is Hussein!!!" crap is so sickening to me. It's not the racist undertones that get me mad, it's the fact that the Republicans happily condone such discussion, though without ever publicly saying so of course. They know that literally ...

Re: Why a Downtown Stadium Didn't Get Off The Ground

Two of these are no longer possible (if anything really is now).  The North loop location wouldn't get any (or much) of the skyline in the background as all stadiums must face North-Northeast.  I was a big fan of the North Loop location because of the incredible integration with the urban fabric (a...

Re: KC Star Downtown Progress Report

It continues to amaze me that all the TIF and downtown progress discussions, with their mischaracterizations and illogical arguments, always sidestep the basic question from an economic perspective: is there demand for urban living? Economic incentives may help build lots of new shiny towers but the...

The sharp divide in PA and NY is interesting, as well as the bastions of Soda in St. Louis and Milwaukee.

Re: Power & Light residential tower (next to P&L Building, not Cordish related)

This is a good illustration of the problem in this town... If you were a developer with land in the CBD, why on earth would you put any effort into a new tower when other plans for new towers are collapsing or at a standstill due to slow sales? I understand and sympathize with the complaints of not ...

Re: Chiefs

After the Chiefs' second-round pick and third overall, the ESPN announcers were gushing about how KC has by far the best draft so far. Since I haven't paid any attention to the draft discussion, I don't know if they mean it, but literally every one of them agreed that Carl Peterson is doing great so...

Aqib Talib taken at #20 overall in the first round by Tampa Bay. ESPN announcers appeared to be surprised since Tampa Bay was expected to take a receiver.
