Well, in terms of tenants I think it makes sense to look at what is at Power Plant in Baltimore....
http://www.powerplantlive.com/ Or at fourth street live in Louisville....http://www.4thstlive.com/
These give a clue, right?>

Re: Twin Oaks to be saved?
earlier estimates were that razing and rebuilding would cost at least 70 million. And, they will get fewer units--which means less revenue over the long haul. It makes more sense to invest in rehabiliation, given the sheer volume of units available there. Density, density! Thats what KC needs!

Re: Sept 9th... Hip Hop Summit
While all of these comments are amusing, hip hop organizing is becoming an important way for progressives to try to mobilize youth, especially youth of color.

A heads up for the planned revival of the Priests of Pallas event...at one time apparently the largest festival in the midwest. Some history: http://www.news.ku.edu/2005/August/Aug22/kemper3.shtml and a link for tickets... http://www.jchs.org/events.html A friend of mine is involved in this and say...

Re: Downtown KC's Revival...again?
[ This is totally my supposition, but I believe my generation will live in the suburbs ONLY while raising children.

Hmm, I dunno, I think a tiny portion of your generation will come back, but once folks move to suburbs I suspect most won't come back. The downtown/urban core populat...

Crawford Architects and River Market
Collison says in today's paper that Crawford is planning on building a 20-25000 square foot building in the River Market...4 stories, most likely at 4th and Wyandotte....I hadn't heard this before.

Re: Is entertainment a viable component for urban revitalization?
Well, if this phenomenon were true, it would argue that places like Seattle, Portland and San Francisco are bust and places like Phoenix, San Jose, etc should be thriving. Not exactly the definition of great urban places. I disagree with this analysis. I'd be in the Richard Florida camp. I'm ...

Re: Is entertainment a viable component for urban revitalization?
This is sort of the same train of thought as why I get tired of people that want to plop a residential tower into every corner of the city. Just like you like living in Waldo, I like living downtown, but I still prefer to live in a smaller scale building and not a tower. You have to allow for p...

Re: Is entertainment a viable component for urban revitalization?
By the way, part of why I live in Waldo, and not downtown, is related to Kotkin's points here. While I love galleries, bars, and clubs, I love the basic amenities that my area has--a hardware store, a Planet Sub, drug stores, barber shops, a simple library, a walking trail, a park. And I love the m...

Re: Is entertainment a viable component for urban revitalization?
I actually think Kotkin is making some great points--not often heard on this board--about how some kinds of development leave folks behind. Almost noone on this board talks about how racial minorities and white working class folks are being left out of the development process for example--while I am...

Budget cuts may not always be unwarranted, but generally these don't stop administrators from misusing funds...rather, they come out of programs that would be used to help the poor, mentally ill, children, elderly, etc...

The staff at Accurso's told me that there is still a plan to redevelop the retail on that street...and that they may temporarily move. I don't think its all done--I would look for the old Cabaret building to be razed eventually...and the fire station is moving too. Funny how lots of money can do tha...
